I'm interested in trying some moonlighting and have a few questions for you.It seems like mercury vapor is the best for this - do I need heavy-duty electric for this (i.e. type used for oven, clothes dryer). What size fixtures should be used? The trees (oak) are about 30-40' feet high. How many do I need to get an effect on a 40'x40' backyard area? Thanks for you help.

The mercury vapor fixtures we sell are designed to operate at 120 or 240 volt.  A typical 100 watt fixture draws about two amps each which means you can operate up to ten lights on a standard 20 amp, 120 volt circuit.  All high voltage systems should be installed using UF cable or in conduit according to the National Electrical Code.

For a 40 foot mounting height, I would recommend that you consider the double 100 watt kit.  The spread of the light is roughly the equivalent of the mounting height. Depending on the tree layout you may need one or two kits to get full coverage.

In addition to the lights we carry all the wire, photocells, boxes and accessories you will need to install your system.
