Can this fixture be mounted in direct rain? What type of box woukd be requried to mount this ixture?

Yes, you can mount the Westinghouse 78790 weatherproof ceiling fan outdoors in the rain.  The fan has a wet location rating which means it will work well on a patio, arbor or porch where moisture or water might be present.

It comes with rubber gaskets and should be mounted on a round weatherproof junction box like the one from RAB.
