I am installing my own irrigation and lighting system. I am in the process of digging the trenches and want to decide on the lighting before I cover the trenches. How do I decide what kind of transformer to use and do I have to do all the lighting at one time or can I do it in phases like I'm doing my irrigation system. Can you help me with design and technical aspects of the lighting? Thanks

I would centrally locate your transformer in the area that you are lighting.   While the ditches are open run several home run cables from your transformer to areas in your yard you intend to illuminate.  For calculation purposes, I would allow no more than 100 watts per 100 foot run using 12/2 cable.  As long as you leave yourself 4 or 5 cables you should be fine.  Once you have a total load you can buy the transformer and the lights.  Have you considered one of our pre-packaged low voltage lighting kits?
