I have a large above-ground pool (40x24) with a huge deck. Is it ok to put low voltage lighting around the deck close to the pool and what would you recommend?

It is a good idea to maintain a distance of 6' back from the pool with any lighting fixtures.  Make sure all lighting is protected by a GFCI receptacle.  As to what kind of lighting you use, it depends on the plant materials you have aroung the pool.  If you have trees, I would go with some LOW VOLTAGE UP LIGHTS and maybe some 12 VOLT ROPE LIGHTING (PEARL WHITE) under the deck railing.  You can also introduce STEP LIGHTS or PATH LIGHTS if you have steps or adjacent flower beds.
