I would like to replace the "yucky" malibu lighting system that is at our lake house (it was was installed sloppy and is falling apart). I would like to do it myself. I have a couple of questions my husband wants to use solar. I am hesitant out lot is heavily wooded and we need the lights to be some what bright at night to see the walk way. I want to put them on a timer as well. I do not want the blue tint that so many of the neighbors have (to much like an airport run way). The "set" that the previous owner installed has two transformers (one with 7 lights on) and the other with about 10. I would like something that is user friendly that I can install, we will be doing renovations in about a year and will be moving them once the job is complete. The lighting now is plastic and broken they fall over daily (even though I restake them daily). Could you please recommend a system and explain to me if soloar is an option. I can not find much information regarding this issue. I have seen that Hampton Bay seems to have a lot of problems (so I will stay away from that brand). I also want the lights to be sturdy we have wildlife in the area and I belive they are knocking the current lights over (all though I could blow on them and knock them over) so I need something that replace parts/bulbs are easily attainable. I thank you for any advise you can give me so that I can may make a knowlegable decision.

I would stay away from solar pathlights as they produce very little light. You should install a low voltage lighting system that consists of PATH LIGHTS for the walk ways and MR16 SPOT LIGHTS for trees and shrubs.  You will need DIRECT BURIAL CABLE and TRANSFORMER with timer to complete the system.

Check out our LIGHTING INFORMATION PAGE to learn more about designing a system.
