Amazing resource you have. Thanks! I have a Malibu Ml121RT transformer with a non-operative timer motor. I pulled the motor and plugged it into 110VAC directly and it did not operate. I have returned and replaced the two previous xformers for this same issue thinking that the manufacturer had gotten a bad batch of motors. After the 3rd failure, I wondered if I could add a photocell switch and dispense with the timer motor altogether? I am disappointed with the Malibu brand. Another formerly good American product gone the way of mediocrity.

My feeling exactly!  Why not step up to a Focus transformer for dependability and value.
