My lighting in the backyard works, doesn't work in the front. When I cut the wires and was going to splice them back - I noticed one of the wires is "dusty" inside....not copper looking like the other side. will it still work or does it need to be replaced?

It is not unusual to see corrosion inside of copper wire at the connections.  Just clean off the corrosion and splice the wires using a wirenut filled with silicone sealant.  This will prevent water from causing the same problem.

Should you need some new landscape lighting wire or want to expand your outdoor lighting system, I trust that you will visit your friends at Residential Landscape Lighting & Design.  Good luck on the repairs and thanks for the question.
