we have (partially) built 2 brick columns that will be topped with glass block and illuminated- the problem is the column is narrow- 12x12 and the access door to the interior is even smaller 8x8. I need a fixture small enough to fit in to the interior space that I can reach in and change the bulb.(the fixture and door will sit below the level of the glass block.- a bare bulb seems logical but may not pass code for outdoor use( althought the area will be practically sealed- the block will be topped with a flat stone that overlaps the edges of the column) the contractor and the glass block company were not helpfull and I'm sure I,ve seen thus done ( althought perhaps those colums were wider!) thanks for your help- lorna

I would use a 35 -watt (FRA) MR16 low voltage brass up light that is designed for outdoor and underwater use.  This rugged brass fixture is small enough to fit in your space and can be easily removed for relamping and servicing.  The accessory stand can be used for aiming the light if desired.
