Lighting Forum Help - Getting Started

What is a forum?

A forum is a collection of online discussion groups focusing on certain topics.  The lighting forum is an excellent way to ask questions, seek advice, or give your opinion about lighting subjects ranging from product selection to installation.  Discussions are begun when someone posts a new "Topic."  Other visitors may post "Replies" to this topic.  While anyone visiting the lighting forum may browse the posts or search for particular topics using the search tool, you must have a user account in order to post new topics or replies to existing topics.

Getting started.

Begin by clicking the "Lighting Forum" button on the blue bar at the top of the page.  This will take you to the Lighting Forum home page.

The Lighting Forum Home page contains a list of all the major categories of the forum, such as Landscape & Outdoor Lighting, Indoor & Home Lighting and even News and Site Information.

Listed on the right of each category are the total number of "Topics" or discussions in that category.  Next to this is the total number of "Posts."  In other words, if someone posted a new topic, and then another person posted a reply, that would count as 2 posts.  Finally, the far right hand column indicates the last date either a topic or a reply was posted in this category.

The far left hand column, just to the left of the category names and descriptions, will display one of two icons.  The arrow indicates that no new topics or replies have been posted in this category since your last visit to the forum.  A page icon indicates new activity.  Note: you must be logged in with your user account for this information to be indicated correctly.

You will also notice, just above the blue heading that reads "Residential Landscape Lighting & Design Forum!" a box with a "Search" button.  Enter any terms related to the type of information you are looking for into this box and click "Search" to return results from all categories in the Forum.  Click "Advanced Search" to the right of the search box to get more options relating to your search.

The top right hand corner of any forum page contains your user information.  If you do not have an account, or if you are not logged in, you may click on the links indicated to login or create a new user account.  If you are logged in, it will indicate your user name, a link to edit your preferences, and your user level.

Click on any of the major category links to choose a discussion group within that category.
