How do you take the face plate off this Nutone vent fan?
The Nutone plastic grill is held in place by two springs called "Chicken Feet". Just pull down on the grill and press the springs together to release from the housing.

I have this (and other nutone fans) fan in a new house built for us. Not sure where our builder bought fan , maybe home depot, but builder has left us and the MBR fan sounds like a truck and will probably stop working soon. What recourse do i have from nutone? Can someone come out and inspect or replace this fan?
The NUTONE FAN in your bathroom has a 4.0 sone rating which means it should not sound like a truck. PANASONIC VENT FANS are much more quiet if you are considering a change. I like the PANASONIC FANS.
Your recourse is with your builder since your house in new. Do you have a Home Shield plan that will cover these kinds of issues?

We are considering the Fantech line of remote exhaust fans as well as a Panasonic Exhaust fan. We are considering one of thise 2 choices. Our concerns are noise and backdraft.I hear the Panasonic is quiet, but, does it prevent backdraft as well as the fantech? What is your recommendation? (I also understand if the Fantech is used in may rooms, that sound from other rooms gets piped around the house to other rooms connected to the fan
heard that?) Thanks for your help. Chet Bassetti
PANASONIC EXHAUST FANS are some of the best made fans and quietest fans on the market. The Panasonic fans do have backdraft doors to prevent unwanted air or energy loss.
I am not familiar with the other fan you are consdidering or the problems with sound issues you are raising.

My builder and I have a disagreement over a bathroom ventilation system for my new home. He wants to install exhaust fans in every bathroom and I want to set up a central ventilation system using a remote duct mount fan motor. Do you have any thoughts?
Installing a
REMOTE DUCT MOUNT EXHAUST FAN is a the Cadillac of exhaust systems. That is because you have to set up a large duct that will channel the unwanted air or moisture from several bathrooms to the outside of the house, which can be expensive.
Having said that, I think it is still a great idea to consider this exhaust method over individual fans. I think it is quieter and more efficient to pull the air, rather than push the air.
If you decide to go with conventional
BATHROOM EXHAUST FANS OR HEATERS, we carry
NUTONE and
PANASONIC.

Is there an easy way to size an exhaust fan for my bathroom? You have so many choices!
Picking the right
VENT FAN is always hard for a consumer. We get lot's of questions regarding
NUTONE FANS and
PANASONIC FANS.
So we created a simple CALCULATOR to help you determine the minimum CFM fan needed for HVI's recommended 8 air exchanges perhour as recommended by the manufacturer. CFM stands for cubic feet per minute of air.

We have lots of
VENT FANS &
EXHAUST FANS that would work great in a family room or game room to remove cigarette and cigar smoke. One in particular, the
Nutone Exhaust Fan 671R is well suited for this kind of application.
The
Panasonic - Whisper Wall Kitchen Exhaust Fans 70 - PAN FV08-WQ1 is also a very good exhaust fan that is designed to go through the wall if you don't have access above the ceiling.

Not all
VENT FANS and
EXHAUST FANS are created equal! Both
NUTONE and
PANASONIC make some very quiet fans. Panasonic is in fact known for their superior quality and low sound. If you really want to hear nothing, you might try one of our
PANASONIC REMOTE EXHAUST FAN MOTORS that can be installed in the attic on the duct. You will never know it is on. You can also save money by connecting more than one bathroom vent to the exhaust duct system to handle more than one room at a time.

Yes,
Nutone Multi-Port bathroom exhaust fans work best for large rooms, because you would be able to install the ports over the areas where the ventilation is needed the most (source control). The size of the multi-port would be determined by the size of the room.

Nutone Bathroom fans can be used in the wall. Mount the
fan as high as possible on the wall. When wall thickness is an issue, use "thinner" fans. You can contact Technical Support for other fans that may be used in wall applications. Any fan with a light should not be installed in a wall.

Any
Nutone fan unit can be covered with insulation. If you have a
fan/light unit, it would have to have an IC rating. IC stands for insulation contact.
