We are installing
under cabinet lighting but am not sure how much light per linear foot we should expect to install.
We are looking to light under the cabinets onto a dark granite (green or black)
counter top. Any general recommendations would be appreciated.
Darker color counter tops, such as granite, tend to produce reflected images of the light source which can be objectionable. However, you just have to live with it because it is difficult if not impossible to completely hide the reflections from normal viewing angles, without reducing light output or coverage.
Most fluorescent, xenon or halogen light fixtures designed for under cabinet lighting produce sufficient light levels for task lighting, regardless of the counter top color. They key to successful kitchen lighting, is uniformity and the ability to dim the lights for mood setting. So that eliminates fluorescent lighting for now.
I would take a look at our XENON LIGHTING FIXTURES and HALOGEN LIGHT FIXTURES as a possible consideration. Position the lights where you do your work, or continuously for best illumination.

I currently have direct-wired fluorescent under cabinet lights hardwired to a wall switch. Each of the three fixtures has its own wiring coming through the wall. I would like to replace the fixtures with recessed Xenon disk or puck lights. Can I wire these directly into the wiring linked to the switch, or do they require a transformer? If a transformer is required, does it have to be in a
junction box? I can hide the wiring in routed tracks, but it would be difficult to hide/enclose a junction box. Thanks!
You can simply replace the fluorescent lights with XENON LIGHTS. These high performance task lights will work without having to modify the existing wiring. You can also dim these lights is desired. The same fixtures are also available as HALOGEN LIGHTS as well.

First, your website is impressive! I was unable to find out how to convert my kitchen fluorescent strip lighting to incandescent. I''ll need to add under counter lighting to spread more light. I look forward to your response and professional advice. thanks!
We are certainly glad that you like our website. Thanks!
You have a couple of options for converting your FLUORESCENT UNDER CABINET LIGHTS to HALOGEN UNDERCABINET LIGHTS or XENON UNDER CAB LIGHTS. Both of the quality task lights will retrofit with out having to rewire your lights. Both can be dimmed using a LUTRON DIMMER CONTROL.

I am interested in replacing my fluorescent lights under the cabinets in my kitchen. Does somebody make a halogen or Xenon light that will utilized the existing wiring?
Yes they do!
American Lighting manufacturers and series of
XENON UNDERCABINET LIGHTS and
HALOGEN UNDER CABINET LIGHTS that will replace your existing fluorescent lights without having to modify the wiring. That is because the
HALOGEN TASK LIGHTING FIXTURES have built in electronic transformers that operate the 12-volt lamps. The xenon fixtures, on the other hand, are designed to operate at standard house current. Both quality products can be dimmed by a
LUTRON DIMMER CONTROL! They come in several painted finishes and brushed metals to match your kithen hardware.

My house will be built sometime this month, I ask my builder to install under cabinet lights in the kitchen, of course they will do it for a ridiculous price, I went to home depot and found halogen under cabinet lights for $19.99 ( 3 lights), how hard is it to install or
pre-wire for this, I'm not handy but I'm willing to learn? Thanks
That depends on the type of
UNDER CABINET LIGHTS that you are considering. If they are
PUCK LIGHTS with a transformer it is fairly basic and the lights come with instructions. If it is a
XENON UNDER CABINET LIGHT FIXTURE it will require 120-volt wiring back to a switch. Did your builder provide the wiring?
