Motion detectors work well to turn small outdoor fountains on and off.

I sell fountains and would like the fountains to turn on when they drive up and off when they drive off...what do I need???

Any simple MOTION DETECTOR used in combination with a LIGHTING CONTACTOR will turn your fountain off and on. The contactor reduces the load on the motion detector on larger fountains. If you are talking about a simple pump, the motion detector is rated for a approximately 10 amps.

Please give us a call here at Residential Landscape Lighting & Design at 800-239-2939 when you are ready to place the order. You will need a JUNCTION BOX for the lighting contactor.

Will a motion detector work in combination with a time clock for security lighting?

At present my outdoor lights go on by way of timer 5pm through 11pm. I also am able to turn the lights on with the wall switch at any time. Can I use this motion detector in addition to what I now have so that if motion is detected after my timer powers off the lights will go on. Thanks

Sounds like you have some kind of override switch on your security lighting. Once you kill the power to the MOTION DETECTOR normally it will not operate. Now if you remove the timer and use just the motion light it will do what you want. The RAB GOODNIGHT MOTION DETECTOR dims the lights down to 20% until it detects motion and then raises the lights to 100% for security. This is a very nice feature that not only saves energy, but extends lamp life.

Thanks for the question. We look forward to serving you here at Residential Landscape Lighting & Design. Call us toll free at 800-239-293 if we can be of assistance.

How do I hook up a RAB motion detector to an existing outside light?

Can your motion detectors be wired into existing light fixtures? If so, how is it wired? Thank you...

Yes, our motion detector can be installed to an existing outdoor light fixture.

The RAB MOTION DETECTOR is designed to go between the power supply coming from the switch going to the outdoor light fixture. So, as long as you can install the motion detector inline before the light, it will work fine.

Thanks for shopping today at Residential Landscape Lighting & Design. Call us toll free at 800-239-2939 if we can be of service.

How can I hook up a motion detector or occupancy sensor in a hallway at both ends?

I have a long hallway and would like to install two, three or four motion detector switches to operate overhead fluorescent lights. I would like to know: 1. Can this switch accommodate three or more different locations in the hall? 2. I would like these switches to ALWAYS be activated by motion and not be possible for them to be disabled. 3. How many amps will they carry? (how many fluorescent lights at what wattage?) Thanks for your help. G

You can most certainly install the WSD - MOTION DETECTOR SWITCH in you hallway in multiple locations. You only need one at each end and other can be bypassed so the lights don't accidentally get turned off. So, if you have a three way or four way system, it will work fine.

Thanks for contacting Residential Landscape Lighting & Design for your HOME AUTOMATION SUPPLIES. Just give us a call at 800-239-2939 for more information or to order the wall switch. You can find all the specifications regarding load types on the product page.

Motion activated night lighting for a kid's bathroom using rope lighting.

In a design magazine there was a reference to a strip light activated by a motion detector installed in the toe kick of the bathroom vanity--when you enter the bathroom in the dark it serves as an automatic night light. I'm about to install a 66" vanity in my kid's bathroom and am interested in doing this--can you advise me? What would I need to purchase? Thanks a million!

You have a couple way to automate your toe kick lighting using ROPE LIGHTS in the kid''s bathroom.

The RAB SMART SWITCH LOS2400 is a ceiling mounted control that would work well. The other option is a RAB SSD MOTION DETECTOR SWITCH that could be mounted horizontally in the toe kick or low on the wall as long as the device was not obstructed.

You should consult your electrician as to the best approach for your situation. We have these parts in stock should you need them quickly. Either way, you should use a GFCI RECEPTACLE, since it is in a bathroom.

12 volt motion detector works well with outdoor landscape lighting systems.

I have some 12v landscape/security lights that need a new motion detector with photo sensor.Do you sell any models that are appropriate for 12v lighting? If so, which one(s).Thanks

We have one MOTION SENSOR DESIGNED FOR 12 VOLT LIGHTING posted.

Stealth Motion Sensor Alarm with 110 degree view for 12volt AC/DC systems

Standard 110 degree wide pattern reaches 50'' out & 70'' wide

Double Look down lens

96 watt capacity

Great for controlling low voltage lighting or security systems

Temperature compensation: sensitivity adjusted automatically for consistent detection in hot and cold ambient temperatures

Radio frequency immunity: Stealth isn't fooled by RF signals (cell phones or police/fire radio)

Quick test time: easy to install and easy to test. A 5 minute Test Period allows aiming and walk testing day or night. During the Test Period, the sensor keeps lights on for 5 seconds each time it detects movement.

Surge Protection: withstands 6000 volts.

Color: Architectural Bronze

LED Detection Indicator and color matched lens

Can I use a time clock and motion detector on the same lights?

I would like to buy a couple of low voltage power systems. 120 v ac to 12 v dc - 250 watt. I want this unit to be activated by a timer in the early evening and by a motion sensor the rest of the night. How do I put a system together like this. If I buy separate units how to I wire them together so they work.

We only have AC LOW VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS in our selection of OUTDOOR LIGHTING PRODUCTS.

We do have a RAB STUFF180HL MOTION DETECTOR that works like a photocell and motion detector in one. Unfortunately, it is only rated for 180 watts. The RAB STUFF500 MOTION DETECTOR does not have the dual function feature, but it will handle 250 watts of load. Hope that helps!

Mission Style Lighting

are there any motion detector outdoor lights that are also mission style/or prarie style for the outside of our house?

We are in the process of adding Mission Style fixtures to our web site and may have just what you need. You can always install a motion detector between the switch and the fixtures to control all the lights on the switch leg. Contact James in customer service at 800-239-2939 for more information regarding other mission style fixtures and motion sensors.
