Kitchen Lighting Tips
One of the most popular and frequently used rooms in any house or apartment is the Kitchen. People tend to gravitate to kitchens for many reasons. Most of the time, people visit the kitchen to enjoy food, have drinks or a chance to socialize with others. If the KITCHEN LIGHTING is bad, people don’t stay very long regardless of the food or conversation. That’s a fact!
There is nothing worse than spending time in a kitchen with poor lighting. Improper kitchen lighting can result from too many light fixtures, improper placement of lights or heat caused by overhead lights. As a result of this, KITCHEN LIGHTING plays a major role in how the room is used on a daily basis.
Whether you are cooking or socializing in the kitchen, having the right kind of KITCHEN LIGHTS can set the mood. If you are entertaining for example, it would be best if the light levels in the kitchen were consistent with other rooms in the house. Who wants to stand in a room filled with bright fluorescent lighting when you could be bathed in a warm colored incandescent recessed light that has been dimmed? Would you want you nice intimate setting in the dining room spoiled with spill light from the kitchen as you serve your guests?
Kitchen lighting should consist of several light sources on separate switched so that various settings can be created by layers of lights. Secondly, it is preferable to have a HANGING LIGHT over the table or HANGING PENDANT LIGHT over the island for a decorative feature. And I would use RECESSED LIGHTS or FLUORESCENT LIGHTS from the ceiling for a general light source in the room. And finally, don’t forget the DIMMER CONTROLS which in my opinion are the most important part of good KITCHEN LIGHTING.
