I want to install under cabinet strip lighting in my kitchen; here''s some info and questions:1) There are two sections of cabinets on two separate walls that I want under cabinet lighting on:a. Section 1: 9.5’b. Section 2: 3.5’2) The sections are separated by 5’ (window)3) The basement is open directly below the kitchen (if locating the transformer in the basement makes sense)4) The under cabinet overhang is 1-1/8”; I want the bulb/fixtures less than that height so that they’re hidden5) Xenon Festoon lights desired6) Lights must be dimmable7) 10 watts each is sufficient8) Bulbs every 3” – approximately 52 bulbs total (13’ x 4 bulbs / foot) or 520 watts total (52 bulbs x 10 watts)9) There will be access to do in-wall wiring (as I’m installing a new backsplash)Questions10) Location:a. What is the best installation for the transformer:i. In the cabinets?ii. Under the cabinets?iii. In the basement?11) Wiring:b. What kind of transformer is required?c. I assume a 600 Watt minimum transformer is required (90% maximum for 600 watts = 540 watts max bulb load)d. Can one dimmer switch control both sections (9.5’ and 3.5’)?e. What kind of dimmer is required (is there a dimmer specifically for low voltage applications such )12) Other:f. How is the system sold?g. What kind of wire is required?i. In wall?ii. What gauge (for a total length of 35’)?13) What other hardware is required?

I like the idea of installing the low voltage transformer in the base, emt below the kitchen.  I would run an individual 12/2 romes from each run of HM Series lights back to the transformer.  This is called home run wiring and it is the best way to accomplish your undercabinet lighting for maintaining voltage and even distribution.

The xenon lamps and custom glare shield with the Phantom lighting system will provide a very nice dimmable light source for task lighting.  Bright when you need it and soft for parties and late night snacks.

All the transformers come with secondary fuse protection and you should combine your home run wires to match the breaker provided.  Allowing for a 20% saftey factor is also a great idea.

Thanks for the question and for shopping at Residential landscape lighting & Design.
