Your home is your castle, and while you might not have a moat and a drawbridge, you still want to keep it and the people inside safe. Most people will install a security alarm to warn of intruders, but those only work after the criminals have entered the home. Ideally, you would like to deter a rogue before he gets to your door. The best way to do this is to make sure that the exterior of your home is well lit. This means that you will need to have a system of home security lighting in order to best keep your abode.

Criminals prefer to do their dirty work under cover. This means that typically burglars will break in at night, when their actions are masked by the shadows. In order to dissuade them from their quarry, you should try to eliminate as many dark places from around your home as possible. This is the goal of security home lighting, and there are many options from which you can choose in order to do this. Residential Landscape Lighting and Design has everything that you need to install your own home security lighting fixtures. We also have available experts to help you every step of the way in your quest to keep your castle safe from intruders.

Perhaps the simplest of security home lighting fixtures are motion activated flood lights. An amateur should be able to install any of our low voltage flood lights; however if you are unsure of your technical prowess in any way, or you would like to put in high voltage flood lights, you should consider hiring a professional electrician. High voltage security home lighting is very dangerous with which to work. It will be in your best interest to leave such a dangerous task to the experts.

Some people do not like the continuous glare of flood lights, but they would still like the safety that such home security lighting offers. If this describes you, you do not have to give up the notion of illuminating your lawn to prevent criminal activity. What you should do is to install outdoor wall lights or detectors. These will turn the lights on as soon as any movement is sensed crossing the beam.  If you are only using a detector, you will need to tie it in with either a halogen or incandescent  flood light, but they do not work with mercury vapor or sodium vapor (both also called H.I.D.) lights. The reason is that H.I.D. lights work by exciting the electrons in the gas inside the tube. When the gas is excited, it begins to flicker on and off, so fast that it cannot be detected by humans. It will simply appear that the light is continuously lit to you, but it is this flickering action and the fact that these lights take a few moments to warm up before coming on are why H.I.D. flood lights cannot be used with motion detectors. For additional home security lighitng you can also put occupancy controls inside the house to control when the interior lights come on. This can create the illusion of someone inside the home, even when you are away, and no burglar wants to break in on a homeowner while he is there.
