Fluorescent Lighting Lamps
Initial cost and life long efficiency make fluorescent bulbs a good choice for general home and business lighting. You will be able to find a large selection of fluorescent light bulbs here at Residential Landscape Lighting and Design.
Cost effective fluorescent light bulbs are becoming the most popular type of bulb. Many environmentalists and energy misers are encouraging the replacement of incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lights. This is due to the fact that these bulbs use much less electricity and have a longer life span than incandescents. How do fluorescent light bulbs work? When they are turned on, an electrical current is sent into the tube. Inside the tube is a mercury and a fluorescent gas. The mercury's electrons becomes excited with electricity. This produces a vapor which causes the fluorescent gas to emit light.
Fluorescent lamps also do not raise the ambient room temperature the way that other lights can if left on for extended periods of time. This saves money on you electric bill since your air conditioner will not have to work harder to compensate to keep the room temperature down. The quickest way to ease the burden on your air conditioner is to replace the incandescent light next to the thermostat with a fluorescent light bulb. Immediately, you will notice that the thermostat registers a lower ambient temperature next to it than before. This means that it will not have to cycle on as often to keep the room cool and comfortable.
There are two main types of fluorescent light bulbs. At Residential Landscape Lighting and Design we have traditional fluorescent lamps as well as the convenient compact fluorescent light bulbs. The compact form are designed to fit into traditional socket; so if you are replacing older bulbs, these will be a good option for you since you will not have to replace the fixtures themselves. Many homes and businesses, though have fixtures just for fluorescent lamps. In many cases, these can be found in home kitchens and businesses.
At the end of your fluorescent light bulb's long life, you will have to take precautions in its disposal. This is due to the small amount of mercury which is enclosed in the tube. Since it is encased in glass, no ill health effects will result from it, but these bulbs must be taken to your city's fluorescent lamp and light bulb recycling center. Call your city's information line to inquire where to dispose of materials such as fluorescent lamps and computers, since these will likely be taken at the same facility. These lights should not be thrown away in the trash, since they could lead to the mercury leaking out into the landfill if they are broken later. You will have no problems, yourself, if you follow the proper disposal for your fluorescent lamps.
