Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

You would like to save money, and one of the easiest ways to go about this is by cutting down your monthly electricity bill. There are some simple steps to do this. Besides changing your thermostat to keep your home's temperature cooler in summer and warmer in winter, you can also replace all of your lights with  energy efficient light bulbs. There are many different types of lights which fit into this category and we have a wide range of them here at Residential Landscape Lighting and Design.

For energy efficiency, incandescent bulbs are not your friends. While they might be the least expensive initially, they will cost you more in the long run. There are too many choices which burn longer, brighter, and cooler than incandescents, and these qualities are what make them energy efficient light bulbs.

Perhaps one of the quickest and easiest changes for your home will be to pull out all of your interior incandescent bulbs and in their places, put  energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs. Fluorescent lights are more efficient since they do not waste energy by producing heat. The result is a cooler, longer lasting light. Be aware, though, that fluorescent lamps can make things lit by them appear to have fewer red tones. This is most easily seen by the washed out look that many people seem to have under fluorescent light bulbs. If the color rendering is not as important, though, you might want to take a look at these energy efficient light bulbs.

Other energy efficient light bulb choices are those bulbs which have longer lives. Among these are halogen lamps and 10,000 hour lights.  Halogen lights last longer than traditional incandescents because as they stay lit, they rejuvenate the filament which tends to evaporate when it is lit. By continually renewing the filament, these bulbs do not burn out as quickly. They do, however tend to burn much hotter than incandescents, so if heat output is an issue, you might want to consider compact fluorescent light bulbs instead. 10,000 hour lights are in many cases incandescent energy efficient light bulbs. They are perfect for those places where light is needed but the fixture is difficult to get to, such as on a lofted ceiling or in an attic or closet.

If you need energy efficient light bulbs for outside your home we have options there are well. Ask our experts to help you decide which of high pressure sodium lamps, metal halide lamps, or mercury vapor lamps are right for you.
