For anyone with electricity coming into your home or business, you will need a safety valve to protect your home from surges of too much power. This is where  circuit breakers and fuses come into play. These useful pieces will turn off the power flow if too much is detected as it enters the home. The design of your breaker box will determine if you need  fuses or circuit breakers. If you are not sure about what you need for your home, talk to an expert. He will help you to decide which is the best choice for your specific needs.

There are many homeowners who do not know the difference between  circuit breakers and fuses, nor are they fully aware of what either does exactly. Fuses are the simplest models, and they predated circuit breakers. When electricity is coming into the house in some cases it will flow through a fuse. Fuses are just simple wires in tubes. If too much power is coming in, the wire in the tube will burn out, and interrupt the electrical flow. This prevents an overload from reaching the rest of your house. Since the wire is broken if it stops a power surge, you will need to replace the fuse every time it burns out. This single use is the main disadvantage to fuses, but they are usually very low in cost if you need to replace them. Most homes today, though no longer have fuses in their breaker boxes. Instead, many have reusable circuit breakers.

Circuit breakers have replaced fuses since resetting them does not require their complete replacement. They use the power of electromagnets in order to allow them to be reused with just the flip of a switch. These devices operate by having the electricity flow through them. This powers the electromagnet. As long as the electrical current stays below the amperage of the circuit breaker, everything is fine, but if an overload or surge occurs, the electromagnet pulls at the switch which is visible in the breaker panel box and “trips” the breaker off, stopping the electric flow. Besides electromagnets,  circuit breakers might also use metal strips that bend to trip the breaker. Other models even use tiny explosives to achieve the same effect.

Installing  circuit breakers is a simple task to do. Just make sure that the power is turned off first. You then will need to connect the ground bus bar with the ground wire. Afterwards, look for the white neutral wire and connect it to the appropriate neutral bus bar. Now you will need to attach the hot wire to its hot bus bar; then clip in the circuit breaker into place in the panel with the bus clips. You are now finished with your installation. Do not forget to turn on the electricity. Remember that this is just a brief overview of installation. If you have further questions about  circuit breakers and fuse installation or selection, ask an expert.

Choosing this equipment is not difficult to do, but if you need assistance in finding the best circuit breakers fuses for your home or business, it would be best to ask an expert who will help to guide you through the steps for the selection of these parts.
