Interior Lighting Designers & Design

How does this term apply to the industrial world?
Factories, warehouses, and offices spaces all require interior lighting design. All three environments should have their commercial grade lighting systems planned prior to the purchase of any equipment. Sometimes this is for energy savings only, but in other area, interior lighting design is a key component to worker efficiency and is essential to maintaining a safe work environment.

Why would an industrial firm need to think about office lighting?
Virtually every facility, no matter how devoted to manufacturing or distribution it may be, has office space of some type. Management and administration requires this separate space to oversee production and to make mission critical decisions about the company.

Is interior lighting design different in the office of a factory or a warehouse than it is in say, a financial firm or marketing company?
Not really. Interior commercial lighting design in these offices follows the same principles as it does in service-oriented companies in the general corporate world at large. Administrative workers need comfortable task lighting over their desks and cubes. Foyers need a certain amount of ambient lighting to look professional to visitors and clients.

Is there a way to do this cheaply? We don’t have that many offices in our facility.
Break areas and bathrooms can be lit with general commercial fluorescent lights that can be turned on and off at will. Meeting rooms and executive office suites can be configured with lighting controls that can save electricity by dimming the lights and also generate different emotional states for different kinds of meetings by using different combinations of lights.

Why should factories spend extra money on interior lighting design when all they do is manufacture products
They need it because the success of manufacturing depends on precision, time-to-market, and safe working conditions. All three of these things are directly influenced by the quality of light in the building. Without adequate industrial task lighting, assembly line workers cannot see and consequently work at a noticeably slower pace. Morale tends to be rather negative too when people spend long hours at a time in dark areas.

Why do you say lighting is important to safety?
Many times accidents happen around machines that could have been avoided if the lighting had been higher in the area. They can also occur when the lights are improperly mounted and too much light hits the workers’ eyes and partially blinds them. This is why you need a photometric lighting plan that will show exactly how many fixtures company needs, where they need to go, and how they need to be mounted in order to minimize reflective glare and dispel shadows in dangerous and mission-critical labor areas.

What will an industrial interior lighting plan do for my warehouse that general high bay lighting doesn’t already do?
General high bay and low bay lights are standard in almost every warehouse lighting design, so by no means do we suggest you abandon this. Consider, however, how much you spend on maintaining these lights and how much it costs to power them each month. It is quite possible that you will discover that newer, more energy efficient lights engineered with longer lamp life could save money on both power and maintenance cycles.

Isn’t that going to be expensive when it comes to purchase costs?
Not as much as you may think. Only busy work and transit areas need special interior lighting design in order to do special functions and safeguard human life. Many storage areas, untraveled areas, and hallways can be lit with cheaper fixtures and far less electricity without jeopardizing health or corporate revenues.

Industrial Outdoor Lights & Lighting

Industrial outdoor lighting is lighting equipment that is suitable to any environment - including hazardous environments—and capable of producing any necessary or desired light levels that are called for by the situation.

Industrial outdoor lighting systems are composed of many different types of products:

· Outdoor commercial floodlight pole fixtures are used for many applications, especially parking lot lighting.
· Gooseneck and sign lights are used for some general area lighting, facade lighting, and outdoor sign lighting.
· Outdoor pole lighting pacakges also used for general area lighting and roadways that run through large commercial sites.
· Light poles also mark entrances and exits.
· Outdoor commercial lights and floodlights maintain security around the campus.
· Wall packs light sidewalk areas that run next to building walls.
· Canopy lights illuminate walkways that connect commercial buildings.
· Bollard lights are both decorative and functional lighting fixtures for paths, trails and sidewalks.

There are two places that MUST HAVE the very best industrial outdoor lights: the company headquarters and any manufacturing facility.

Regardless of the industry type or nature, the headquarters has to look attractive and establish a clear correspondence between lighting theme and corporate brand. Factories do not need aesthetics of this sort, but they do require precise amounts of glare-free light generated by the very best fixtures.

Residential Landscape Lighting and Design uses lighting design software to plan industrial outdoor lighting systems. This software predicts the behavior of various fixture types and determine which equipment options will work best for your needs. This saves you money by eliminating costly over purchasing and ensures you get exactly what you need. (See photometric lighting examples)

We begin by analyzing the size of the facility. Secondly, we take a close look at the general lay of the land. Many parts of the country are hilly, or even mountainous, and the uneven terrain affects light distribution patterns. Finally, the light requirements of the type of business are factored into the equation to produce a photometric design that satisfies the architectural, spatial, and functional demands of the property.

By investing a reasonable fee in a photometric lighting plan, you save significantly by knowing in advance just how much you will need to spend before you mistakenly buy the wrong fixtures-- or too many fixtures. You never need to worry about over lighting an area or under lighting an area. An industrial outdoor lighting design plan is flexible, too, in that it varies light levels based on actual need for light in that area. In many areas such as warehouse loading docks, you will need bright light for safety. In areas where work does not occur, you only need general lighting for adequate visibility.

Most importantly to savings, when you buy your industrial outdoor lights from us, we refund the value of the photometric design by deducting it from your equipment purchase invoice.

Industrial Lights & Lighting Systems

In factory and warehouse environments, high bay lights provide general overhead lighting. Exit lights in buildings show where doors are located. Assembly lines are illuminated by task lights with higher visibility and minimal glare. Emergency lighting is needed over doorways in case of power outages.

In office and call center environments, and in areas such as lobbies and break rooms, HID lights and fluorescent lights are the most common types of fixtures used in interior industrial lighting systems. Indoor lighting products like these can only be used indoors because they are made to function only in humidity free environments. In moist air or heavy rain, they will not last for long.

Outdoor light fixtures are far more tenacious. They are wet location rated, which means, that they have been designed to weather high humidity, rainfall, and even thunderstorms in places.

The sheer number of fixture options available to businesses is clearly indicates just how much a business needs the assistance of a lighting designer who can plan and configure their industrial lighting system. Such an expert knows just what type of equipment is needed, and where it needs to be mounted.

All commercial enterprises, regardless of whether or not they are technically categorized as “industrial” per se, need industrial commercial lighting systems. Retailer centers, office parks, distribution and storage operations, and manufacturing plants all need both interior and exterior lighting products. Corporate headquarters especially require the very best systems to reflect their brand and corporate culture.

The design of industrial light systems occurs through a series of specific steps. The first step is assessing the types of tasks that will be performed in a given area and how much light those particular tasks will require.

The nature of a fluorescent task lighting is very important. Office work, for instance, requires general lighting. Hallways require some light, but only enough for safety—not high visibility. Assembly lines and machine work require the brightest light for maximum visibility, safety, and productivity.

Determining the right lighting levels is done by taking both general and specific factors into account. General factors are based on general design guidelines that fall within IES codes. Specific parameters are based on the environment and task at hand.

Every client should send us both a plan view and an elevation view of their facility in AutoCAD format. The lighting designer can then input this data into the design software that in generates a photometric layout and 3D rendering of the new system.

This will result in an industrial lighting design that addresses the needs of the building in terms of size and the industry in terms of operations process flow. It will also ensure that different areas within and around the building will get just the right amounts of light they need for optimal safety and productivity.

At Residential Landscape Lighting & Design, we have access to a full range of commercial lighting options suited to the many needs and concerns facing business owners today. If you still have questions about what to choose for your race commercial lighting project, ask an expert or give us a call toll free at 1-800-239-2939 and we will try to find an answer to your question.

Commercial Indoor Office Lighting

Why should factories or warehouses need to think about industrial office lighting?
You still need to consider these industrial fixtures because even factories and warehouses have some kind of office space the building. Management and staff need optimal lighting for comfort and productivity in these areas. If you work in a traditional office environment, every employee in the workplace needs optimal lighting for maximum productivity.

We are on a limited budget and are hesitant about overspending.
Investing a little more in commercial-grade, premium industrial fluorescent office lighting fixtures will save you money in the long run. Also, getting a photometric plan that details exactly how many fixtures you need and where you need to have them mounted ensures maximum light output for the lowest number of physical fixtures.

Better fixtures use less power and last longer, reducing electric bills and maintenance costs in the long run.

Why not just keep my existing fixtures for the time being? They still work.

It’s not about your lights working, it’s about your employees working. Eye strain and fatigue have both been linked to poor lighting conditions. Older generations of indoor fluorescent lights had poor power management due to older magnetic ballasts.

Also, these lamps contained bulbs that operated on a mixture of gases and metals that made everything look yellowish under their light. This was the primary cause of eye strain, depression, and a fatigue that resulted, and many businesses that are operating industrial parabolic office lighting fixtures that are more than 10 years in age still have these negatives present in the work environment on a daily basis.

If we do install new industrial office lighting, what should we look for?
Make sure they offer quick access to bulbs and ballasts so maintenance is easy and cheap. Spend a little extra money on the most energy efficient lamps. They will help you save money on operating costs by using less electricity, and their longer lamp life will mean fewer bulb replacements and correspondingly lower maintenance costs. Make sure you get lights with electronic ballasts.

Many ceiling-mounted industrial office lighting fixtures still use traditional tube shaped fluorescent lights. You can also buy wall-mounted lights that render color much better than their predecessors ever did. These fixtures do not produce that yellowish discoloration of skin and clothing. With yellow light no longer present, eyestrain is gone as well.

What if we simply cannot get rid of our old fixtures and replace them all at this time?
You can use traditional lights that require screw-in incandescent bulbs retrofitted with fluorescent lamp replacements. We have these lights in our product inventory, and they can be very effective in reducing energy costs. Talk to a specialist here about the best choices to make for this application.

Energy conservation is the most important thing to think about when you are choosing your industrial office lighting. You need the help of an expert who can locate brightest of lights for the least amount of energy used.

Commercial Vandalproof Lighting Fixtures

In parts of the city where accidental impact or deliberate criminal mischief can shatter overhead lights. To circumvent these activities ceiling mounted lights or vandal proof lighting fixtures offer a form of lighting whose higher impact and scratch resistance makes them extremely difficult to break, disable, or destroy. Vandal proof, ceiling mount lighting offers libraries, public buildings, academic institutions, shopping malls, and indoor apartments and churches a long-term, reliable source of illumination that requires only occasional maintenance. Most of these commercial ceiling mount lights also feature significant improvements in thermal management and energy conservation as well, making it possible for them to significantly lower your clientʼs light bill.

These three factors, then, represent critical points of value to share with reluctant clients: longer life, impact resistance, and power savings. These attributes make metal halide vandal proof ceiling mount light fixtures ideal for clients who are hesitant to invest in something they truly need to curb the rising costs of operations. Showing an organization documentation of potentially reduced electrical costs, and showing them as well how many years the fixtures can be expected to last without having to be replaced, can often tip the scales in favor of closing the deal. Your clients will see the math clearly laid out on the table, and how the lights will pay for themselves over time.

Residential Landscape Lighting and Design further ensures fixture life not only with vandal proof engineering, but also commercial lighting manufacturer warranties back up in writing. Every canopy mount ceiling light in our inventory is a commercial or specification grade luminaire made in the USA. There are no fixtures, lamps, or mounts from any place overseas. Clients who are tempted to run down to the hardware store and buy vandal proof commercial light fixtures and have the electrician on staff install them donʼt have to shortchange themselves like this. With our equipment, they can be fully assured that a onetime investment will carry itself through the recession and them along with it.

Residential Landscape Lighting and Design offers several distinctive types of commercial vandal proof ceiling mount lights, giving you the freedom to precisely match fixture type to client need. Our lighting experts will help you determine which fixture types, wattages, and lamp options best meet the needs of your client by performing a full photometric analysis of your clientʼs location. This visual is drafted using some of the worldʼs most advanced lighting design software and provides an excellent visual to lay alongside of your proposal. It shows optimal foot candle minimums that have to be generated by the commercial ceiling lights you install, how many fixtures you will need, and what the best lamping options are for those fixtures.

Why not let a commercial lighting designer assist you on your next project? While there is a fee for every analysis, all contractors who buy equipment from us will have that cost deducted in full from the purchase order.

High Bay Lighting Fixtures

RLLD will perform a full photometric analysis of your clientʼs site in order to help you determine the very best fixture types, mounts, and lamps you need to service their requirements. This helps us better determine which high bay lights will best meet the needs of your client. Contractors installing high bay lights in warehouses and factories can find a wide range of fixture manufacture and lamping options through RLLD Commercial Lighting. We are a virtual lighting agency operating nationwide holding multiple representative relationships with major American light fixture manufacturers. Because we are held to know quotas by our manufacturer/partners, we maintain an objective stance toward the many type of High bay light fixture we can equip your proposal with.

Rather than attempting to convince you that a certain manufacturer and model is what you need, we help you find out what lighting levels and optic requirements you need to fulfill first, and then we let you select what is in your best interest from a list of high bay lighting fixtures we recommend.

The advantage this offers the contractor is twofold. First, you have freedom of choice when you work with us and can combine your own expertise in commercial warehouse lighting fixture selection with our expertise in finding the equipment. Because we rely upon a nationwide network of distribution channels, we can find parts in stock when other vendors are suffering from a shortage, and we have earned the respect of manufacturers over the years to the extent that if you need something like high bay or low bay lights shipped ASAP to your clientʼs site, we can almost always get it there in a couple of weeks as opposed to six weeks to 90 days. Even better, the high bay and other light fixtures we sell are exclusively made in the USA and backed in writing by full manufacturer warranties. These are two very important qualities to talk about with your clients to assure them that the money you are recommending they spend is well invested in the best equipment in the world.

We sell high bay lights that are designed for both heavy duty industrial lighting and more detail oriented general, warehouse lighting and task lighting that requires a high color rendering index. RLLD Commercial Lighting offers fluorescent high bays with sophisticated electronic ballasts and exceptional color rendering capability. These fixtures can reduce power bills by as much as 40%, effectively paying for themselves in the process. You may also need fluorescent high bay lights for certain industrial clients, regardless. Metal halide lights may be too bright for some workersʼ eyes, and even if they are not, tend to render color rather poorly. Assembly line work is very tedious and is very hard to ergonomically accomplish under the yellowish tint of high pressure sodium lights. Most manufacturers in these environments are starting to prefer fluorescent high bay fixtures. , they have found fluorescent high bay lights to produce a better, more comfortable illumination that is easier on assembly workersʼ eyes because it is softer, more diffused, and renders color at levels closely approximating natural light.

If you are planning to install a lighting system for a municipal civic center with an outdoor pavilion, we have high pressure sodium lights that will provide excellent lighting for nighttime entertainment and provide the additional benefit of repelling insects. Gyms in academic institutions, churches, and health clubs tend to favor the white light of metal halide high bay lights. If you are looking to install fixtures in one of these places, be sure to mention pulse start metal halide technology which is one of our newest additions to our inventory.

Commercial Lighting Products

The quality of the commercial or industrial light fixtures that you install for your clients matters now more than it ever has. Because we are now in a recession, companies that invest in replacements or upgrades intend to stretch their dollar as far as it can possibly go. Sometimes a business may have already done a bit of homework on the type of commercial lighting products they require, and may have simply contacted you to do the install. This is all well and good if they have a reputable source of quality products. However, if they plan on buying imported commercial warehouse lights, or going down to the hardware store to obtain retail grade materials at cheaper, they will not fare so well in the long run.

This is because there are problems associated with foreign-manufactured commercial lighting poles and fixtures with retail commercial lighting products. Foreign-made light fixtures may claim to be commercial grade in quality, but may actually not be. And, even if they are, other governments have different technical and quality assurance standards than our own. Even if the fixture is compatible with US-made technology, you have no guarantee of quality assurance. When the product fails, there is often no warranty on the product either, leaving your client in the dark until another invoice is generated and stagnate your clientʼs revenue stream with replacement costs and added labor.

It is far better to invest from the beginning in commercial lighting hardware that will do what they are supposed to do, as declared by the manufacturer and backed up by a warranty in writing. This level of performance and guarantee is best obtained through products made in the U.S.A by reputable American manufacturers who even now are working to improve existing light fixture technology for greater ergonomics, energy savings, safety, and aesthetics.

This is why Residential Landscape Lighting and Design represents only those manufactures who headquarter in the United States AND manufacture their products here in the United States.

No outsourcing is used in the production of this our cycle.

When offer your clients commercial lighting products at this level of quality, you can promise with confidence a number of tangible financial returns on their investment through the proper installation and use of these products.

Improved Safety Results from U.S.-manufactured outdoor lighting fixtures
Parking lots and parking garages are two areas where people leaving work after the sun goes down are often attacked. They are also targets for vandalism and car burglaries frequently occur. Upgrading the lighting system in both of these locations with commercial parking lot lighting products that feature the latest in glare shielding, optical performance, and light directional control will improve visibility foot candle levels in these areas and simultaneously reduces light pollution into surrounding neighborhoods and streets.

Ask one of our experts about having a photometric analysis done of your clientʼs site, and we will show you exactly how this can be done.

Better interior lights will improve ergonomics and often contribute toward a more positive among employees. Many factories are now using fluorescent lights with electronic ballasts that produce a high level of light and superior color rendering at 40% less. Fluorescent low bays are a favorite commercial lighting product for assembly line work because of the high CRI they offer, making assembly of small parts less a strain on the eyes. Larger warehouses and factories that need high bay lights can also benefit from HID fixtures with pulse start technology. Interior office lights, commercial work lights and ceiling lights can also now be done with low voltage halogen, LED, and fluorescent fixtures that replace incandescent with more comfortable and controllable levels of light and more precise lighting effects.

ROI through Power Conservation
This last point brings us to our next: ROI through lower power bills. The more efficient the commercial lighting products are, the faster they pay for themselves by saving on the electric bill month after month. An added bonus to this is that most energy efficient fixtures enjoy a very long lamp life, so they will certainly be around when the cost of purchasing them has been offset by subsequent savings. RLLD products are intended to put money back into your clientʼs pockets in this fashion and to contribute to nationwide efforts to develop more environmentally technology pursuant to reversing global climate change.

Under Cabinet Lighting

Residential Landscape Lighting and Design furnishes commercial contractors and lighting designers with a comprehensive types of under cabinet lights and under cabinet lighting accessories. Every one of our cabinet lighting fixtures is made in the United States and will be drop shipped to any place in the country. This one source convenience allows architects and builders to rely upon RLLD as the supply house for any task or accent lights in kitchens, displays, cabinets, and work areas. As energy costs continue to skyrocket, many contractors also come to RLLD for innovative power saving technology. Fluorescent under cabinet lights are more sophisticated and energy efficient than ever before. Halogen fixtures emit some of the brightest, glare free light available. Incandescent and xenon fixtures can produce lighting at a luxury level of quality, and LED under cabinet lighting brings both task and decorative lighting fully into the 21st century.

Fluorescent Under Cabinet Lighting
RLLD maintains full inventory of standard commercial grade and specification grade fluorescent under cabinet lighting fixtures. These lights are regulated by electronic ballasts that produce a smoother flow of energy to the lamp and strictly regulate its consumption. This makes fluorescent under cabinet lighting among of the most energy efficient “high voltage” sources of indoor accent and functional illumination. If you are preparing a proposal for a client who has retail grade fluorescent cabinet lights, or who has extremely old fluorescent fixtures, recommend replacing them as soon as possible. Older magnetic ballasts or retail grade fluorescent fixtures manufactured overseas may begin to flicker or render color with a “yellowish” tint that ruins the aesthetics and can even cause headaches. Replacing these inferior and outdated lights with RLLD specification grade under cabinet fluorescent fixtures will significantly improve ergonomic color rendering, aesthetics, and employee comfort. RLLD fluorescent under cabinet lights are also a favorite among builders and contractors working on new apartments, town homes, and condominium communities.

Halogen Under Cabinet Lights
Halogen under cabinet light fixtures create some of the most powerful kitchen lighting solutions on the market. They are fully dimmable, and they provide cooks and hosts full control over brightness levels without detracting from decorative kitchen elements or food preparation. Cooking clubs normally prefer halogen under cabinet lighting for this very reason. If your client prefers an under cabinet puck light, recommend an RLLD low voltage unit. These fully dimmable pucks emit some of the brightest glare free lighting available on the market. This is due to a special frosting on the lens that produces a smooth distribution of bright light throughout the room.

Xenon Undercabinet Lighting
Xenon under cabinet lights provide a luxury level of illumination for residential and commercial clients. The most well known benefit of xenon under cabinet lighting is the combination of bright white light and long bulb life these versatile lamps offer. Xenon under cabinet lamps normally last three times longer than halogen lamps and emit no ultraviolet radiation. For businesses who need puck lights in work areas that are poorly air-conditioned, our low voltage xenon under cabinet puck lights shield workers from excess heat with special heat resistant plastic housing that keeps temperatures to a minimum and helps reduce HVAC costs.

LED Under Cabinet Lighting
Using the world’s most sophisticated lighting technology, LED under cabinet fixtures require only 20% the power required by other forms of light. This is an added value for any business seeking LEED certification, and for the contractor proactive enough to recommend this technology as a key means to obtaining it. Like xenon cabinet lights, LED under cabinet lighting is 100% UV free, but the bulb life of an LED averages around 60,000 hours. LED under cabinet lights provide the very best glare reduction and use only 1-watt of power. Because they diode semiconductors to produce light, neither high voltage nor low voltage under cabinet LED lights require any additional heat shielding or ventilation. RLLD even has LED under cabinet lights with special radial lenses and prismatic covers that brilliantly distribute light over work surfaces, and we just recently added LED illuminated shelves that combine under cabinet lights cabinet shelving itself.

Low Voltage Under Cabinet Lighting
If your client is still a little hesitant to invest in LED kitchen under cabinet lighting for whatever reason, we can still save them an enormous amount of money by fitting incandescent or xenon lamps to low voltage under cabinet lighting strips or puck lighting fixtures. This reduces power consumption and will often extend bulb life up to 8,000 hours. Clients on strict maintenance budgets should be encouraged to go with low voltage under cabinet lights because they will significantly reduce replacement costs. Low voltage under cabinet lights combines brighter illumination with lower bills, and halogen puck lighting designed with aesthetics in mind proves an ideal match for virtually any decorative display in the home, in the office, or even the conference room.

Solar LED Street Lighting is certain to save any city hundreds and thousands of dollars on the expenses required for street, highway, and roadway lighting. Solar LED street lights combine an unlimited, renewable, and 100% natural energy source with the most progressive and power saving lighting source on the planet. LED solar street lighting will produce no greenhouse gases, utilize no toxic substances that will later require expensive and complicated disposal procedures, and provides lighting levels that rival other forms of roadway lighting. Any city seeking to be more Earth conscious will probably want to take a close look at advantages these lighting fixtures and poles offer them both in terms of slashing costs and improving public awareness of “green” technology and sustainable energy sources. If you have a client that is planning to launch a new public relations campaign focused on green technology and sustainable energy, proposing solar LED street lights can tip the balance in your favor and win you not only a bid, but perhaps a favored position as a repeat contract vendor servicing any number of organizations and businesses connected to that municipalities extended infrastructure.

Solar LED street lighting poles are completely self-contained outdoor security lighting sources that need no unsightly solar sails or fins and do not require cumbersome external batteries to power the lamps. Instead, the batteries are contained in the sturdy concrete bases of the poles themselves, hidden from view. Solar power is collected through a photovoltaic film that wraps around the light pole and gathers light from the environment (regardless of whether or not the sun is visible or hidden behind clouds). The light pole contains a photocell that knows when twilight comes and gradually turns on the LED lamp a little at a time, increasing its power as ambient lighting around the pole fades and bringing it to 100% intensity when total darkness finally falls. If ambient light levels from surrounding sources are high enough, the lamp will not need to output 100% of its light, and the system automatically adjusts to produce the required vertical and horizontal foot candle density for the surrounding area while simultaneously saving battery life by auto-adjusting itself to its specific surroundings.

If something happens to the battery in a solar led street light, or if the power levels significantly fall below acceptable operating levels, a signal is send via the Internet to maintenance personnel on duty. This gives immediate notice to dispatchers so they can then send repair crews on site to correct the problem. LED solar street lights are thus far more reliable and safer than traditional street lights that can fail without anyone knowing it and create dangerous areas of darkness along the road that present a safety hazard to pedestrians and motorists. Maintenance like this is rare, however, because LED lights use only 20% of the battery power that HID and other light sources require, so these street lights almost never lose their charge and can be relied upon for steady performance for many years.

LED solar powered street lights offer a number of other benefits to cities as well. Because LED lamps conserve so much battery power, these commercial street lighting poles more often than not have an excess charge remaining within them on the dawn of the following morning. Municipal entities can actually sell this energy back to the power company, or trade excess electricity for energy credits on other lighting and power costs associated with municipal government and operations. LED solar street lights located near schools, public parks, national guard facilities, and government buildings can also be used as a form of security lighting, as the photocell sensor in each light also contains an optional motion detector that, when activated, will bring the light to full power for 5 minutes if an possible intruder is detected.

Also, at no additional cost to you, RLLD will provide your municipal clients with a free photometric assessment of lighting parking lots, area lighting and lighting requirements so you can show them on paper the power and reliability of this revolutionary new form of roadway lighting. We will also provide detailed information on customizing the power saving features of these lights, such as motion controlled dimming, full power on for emergency lighting, and manually triggered blackout for police and security investigations.

Induction Lighting

Induction lights are engineered around an energy efficient, environmentally friendly technology that is rapidly emerging in commercial and residential lighting projects all over the country. Many induction lighting fixtures now house lamps of up to 400W in power. Smaller, self-ballasted induction lamps, wireless/remote controlled dimmer operable, compatibility with motion sensor devices, and a wide array of customizable fixtures represent RLLD Commercial Lighting's growing and diversified selection of this remarkable technology.

Induction lighting offers benefits to clients of any type or size and is equally viable in commercial and residential marketplaces. With the longest rated lamp life of outside commercial lighting sources, induction lamps provide an ideal source of illumination in places where replacements must be minimized due to limited budgets or where routine maintenance represents a major inconvenience. Sites such as tunnels, bridges, rail yards, and airports can easily recoup initial investment dollars by reducing equipment replacement costs and labor hours billed to maintenance crews. In fact, a good number of municipalities are now turning to induction lights for these reasons. Many small towns lack funding for new street and highway lights, so any new lighting purchases they make have to last as long as possible. The ability of induction fixtures to interface with motion detection sensors, combined with the short ignition times characteristic of induction lights, also make them ideal for security lighting systems around offices and homes. Because of their high color rendering capabilities, they are also well-suited to high-end commercial lighting and custom home lighting. Contractors are installing more and more of these lamps in conference rooms, hotel lobbies, banquet rooms, custom kitchens, home entertainment rooms, and special event facilities.

Induction lighting uses magnetism to produce light. A current travels through a primary coil and creates a magnetic field. This, in turn, induces a secondary current in the mercury vapor within the lamp. Free electrons begin to accelerate, colliding with mercury atoms and creating excited electron orbits. When these electrons subsequently settle back into their normal orbits, they give off UV radiation that strikes a fluorescent powder coating within the induction lamp, creating visible light in the process.

Many features characterize induction lights as a unilateral improvement over HID and incandescent light sources. Induction lighting fixtures do not require electrodes or filaments to operate, and they can last for up to 100,000 hours. They are resistant to vibration and they do not flicker when they power on. Induction light sources produce a bright, white light that ranges between 4,000-5,000K Kelvin with a CRI of 82. Induction lighting fixtures are also highly resistant to cold, having been known to operate reliably at temperatures as low as -40C.

More than anything, the energy saving capacities of induction lights makes this technology a milestone in the ongoing quest to produce ever increasingly bright light with less electricity. LPW efficiency ranges from 70-90W, even in larger fixtures operating at 200W and 400W. Smaller induction lights are also dimmable, making them ideal for indoor commercial and residential lighting where additional energy savings through lighting control may be required.

Induction lights feature LPW efficiency approximately 5 times greater than incandescent and mercury vapor lamps, and they are nearly equivalent to Metal Halide fixtures in efficiency. Despite this near equivalency in efficiency, however, induction lighting fixtures can last up to 10 times longer than Metal Halide lights, something that contractors should not hesitate to emphasize to any academic, municipal, or non-profit client on a fixed procurement budget. Their initially high front end cost well pays for itself in power savings and equipment replacement savings.

There are three types of induction lighting lamps most commonly used in commercial lighting: globe type induction lamps (40W~ 250W), circular type induction lamps (40W~300W) and rectangular type induction lamps (70W~400W). Actual fixture types vary per application and include all the major architectural area, site lighting, outdoor lighting, and street lighting fixtures types. Ask an RLLD Commercial Lighting Consultant about Cobra-head commercial street lights and Shoebox roadway lights, post-top mounted street lights, lights for tunnels, canopy lights for gas stations, wall mounted architectural site lighting fixtures, high bay/low bay lights, office lights, and many more.

LED Lighting

LED lighting has seen some significant and impressive advances in design, performance, and commercial application over the past few y ears. For most of their history, LEDs have been used primarily in display and specialty lighting. Now, they have emerged as a legitimate alternative to traditional general indoor lighting fixtures, commercial outdoor sign lights and commercial outdoor site lighting luminaires. This change has resulted from technological developments that made it possible to produce white light using LED chips. These energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly lamps are now competing directly with every traditional form of fixture and lamp. Some experts even believe that LED lights will one day be the dominant—if not exclusive—light source on the planet. It is too soon to tell if this will actually prove true. Only time will tell. In the meantime, led lighting will continue to both improve and penetrate new markets as concerns over lighting pollution, energy savings, and environmental quality continue to mount worldwide.

The word “LED” comes from “Light Emitting Diode”— a solid state semiconductor that radiates light when agitated by voltage. While diodes have been around for several decades, they did not find their way into general lighting applications until very recently. This is because the LED lights of the past were incapable of producing the type of white light the human eye requires for the safe performance of tasks and the proper differentiation of colors. Early LEDs also did not produce enough lumens per watt to make them powerful enough for general under cabinet LED lighting applications and outdoor site lighting needs. All of this changed, however, when engineers created white light using ingenious modifications and combinations of previous LED lamping technology.

LEDs can now create white light through one of two methods. The first of these is known as “phosphor conversion.” A diode that emits blue or near ultraviolet light is coated with phosphor. When the UV light strikes the coating, it creates white light in a manner similar to that produced by a fluorescent light bulbs. Not only is the light output white, it is also characterized by high LPW efficiency and tends to be very bright.

The second method used in creating white light is known as RGB. Light from red, blue, and green LED lamps is mixed together in various combinations to form white light. This is the same way Nature mixes colors in the natural spectrum, so the light can be varied to a wide range of color temperatures and also “fine tuned” the light toward one or more primary colors if certain effects require doing so. This is highly useful in decorative and display lighting, commercial and retail interiors, commercial LED Christmas lighting and believe it or not, LED street lighting.

The numerous benefits of commercial led lighting are too voluminous to discuss here with any amount of detail. Suffice to say that this new technology represents an energy saving solution to mounting concerns about power consumption. They are also dimmable and compatible with lighting control systems, making them even more energy efficient upon command. Diodes are environmentally friendly as well containing no toxic gas, such as mercury, which is already illegal in some states like NJ and AZ. They are consequently safer and less expensive to dispose of when they finally do fade out. Any numbers of color temperatures are now available for both indoor and outdoor decorative lighting and architectural lighting.

Misconceptions abound about led lighting and led track lighting that many times have to be cleared up first whenever you are proposing them to a client. The most damaging of these false beliefs is that LED lighting generates too much heat to be efficient in high-end or site lighting applications. This misconception actually arose from past, failed attempts to retrofit LED lamps to traditional fixture housings. Because filament-based and gas-based lighting technology differs greatly from solid state lighting technology, thermal management problems always from attempts to hybridize the two.

However, led lights and fixtures that are specifically designed for solid state lamps and light bars will perform exceptionally well in the arena of thermal management, which is one of the many reasons that commercial LEDs last for up to 100,000 hours.

Another false belief that many your clients may possess is that LED lights simply are not as bright as HID lights, such as metal halide light bulbs, and cannot be used to illuminate areas such as parking garages, streets, roadways, outdoor landscapes, buildings, and security perimeters. Again, this is a misconception based on stereotype, not on fact. While it is indeed the case that LEDs have been heavily utilized in the past for special effects, display case lighting, and accent lighting for mood, theme, and effect, new phosphor conversion technology now makes it possible for LEDs to rival even the most powerful HID fixtures with less energy consumption and longer lamp life. For clients looking to recession proof their businesses in uncertain times, the ability to cut power costs by as much as 70% can only make your proposal look more attractive and recession proof at the end of the day.

Knowledge is power only when it is based on reality, not speculation or hearsay. RLLD Commercial Lighting experts know the facts about LED and will share them freely with all clients and serious inquirers. Detailed information can always be obtained by calling an RLLD Commercial Lighting expert for free technical documentation on any type of LED lighting fixture or lamp you might be considering as a line item to your proposal.

Industrial Lighting Fixtures

Energy Efficient Indoor & Outdoor Industrial Lighting Fixtures Will Save You Money.
Industrial lighting must be able to accommodate a wide variety of needs ranging from commercial warehouse lighting to area lighting for detailed tasks. Industrial lighting must also light warehouse areas that are light contrasting such as those with and without day lighting. Industrial lighting does have a significant impact on employee safety and productivity, because an inadequately lit area can create eye fatigue and lower morale.

If you have employees assembling printed circuit boards for example, need adequate overhead and task lighting that does not create glare. Warehouse areas require high intensity lights placed on lighting poles or hung from the ceiling as opposed to workstations which may require simple overhead fluorescent lighting. There are different industrial lighting fixtures and lamping options depending on the height of the facility.

Save Time with Commercial & Industrial Light Fixtures.
In the industrial workplace, there are many indoor and outdoor commercial lighting needs. Industrial lighting is not just for factory or warehouse floors. Industrial buildings are also composed of hallways, aisles, offices and computer rooms which may be enormous in size. Large scale warehouse lighting is available for each of these areas and also for emergency exit and outdoor security lighting.

When you shop for industrial lighting, you will find numerous lighting choices including standard and pulse start metal halides, energy efficient fluorescent, and lighting which preserve natural colors in the environment while making it more desirable for employees. It is important to buy high quality warehouse and security wall pack lighting. Cheap commercial or industrial lighting will degrade quickly over time, putting out less and less lumens. Because the degradation occurs over time and the bulbs or lamps keep working, you may not even realize the industrial lighting is not working at maximum efficiency. The best industrial high bay lighting will maintain their close to maximum lumens for the life of the lamps. Therefore, a regular lamp change program should be implemented around average lamp life of the fixture you select. HID lamps and fluorescent lamps offer the most cost effective solutions for commercial industrial lighting applications.

With a better understanding of how industrial lighting impacts productivity, it is easy to improve your lighting standards.
Industrial lighting and fixtures from Residential Landscape Lighting & Design are now designed to save you money while improving the ability of your employees to get the job done right the first time. From that standpoint, industrial lighting contributes to quality control as much as it conserves energy. Even parking lot lighting plays a major role in employee satisfaction.

Commercial Lighting Fixtures

Outdoor parking lot lighting and warehouse commercial HID lighting should be durable, long-lasting and efficient. While the purpose of commercial lighting tends to be more utilitarian than aesthetic, it is nonetheless important to choose the type of bulb that is appropriate to your task. Even with commercial warehouse lighting applications, it is often important for handlers and receivers to inspect the products that enter and leave the warehouse. If color rendering is an important consideration, for example, then metal halide would be a good choice due to its ability to render colors as they would appear in daylight. If, on the other hand, you are exploring a commercial outdoor lighting application where sheer efficiency is most important, you might consider a high pressure sodium bulb. While the light tends to be orange gold in color, high pressure sodium bulbs tend to be more efficient and therefore longer lasting than metal halide.

No matter what the commercial application, the lighting products that are most appropriate to your needs are certain to be found among our exhaustive selection. We carry both high bay and low bay commercial lighting fixtures, which are designed to provide optimal illumination for any size warehouses or commercial buildings. Easy Rack warehouse bay fixtures are available in 16” or 22” sized options. Our acrylic commercial warehouse lighting fixtures are supplied with coated metal halide lamps, which are designed to reduce glare and increase light distribution. Fitted with highly efficient refractors, these fixtures only emit 10-20% up light. Hook, cord and twist lock plug mounting options are available, as well as sliding mounting plate assemblies which allow for balancing of the fixture as well as easy access to the wiring chamber.

These commercial lighting fixtures are also available with pulse start option, which includes a dedicated ballast and igniter, and eliminates the need for the starting probe and bi-metal switch in the lamp. Pulse start commercial lighting fixtures offer a longer lamp life, improved lamp-to-lamp color consistency, faster warm-up time, faster re-strike time, and colder starting temperatures.

For hallways, utility rooms, gymnasiums, outdoor covered areas, or other applications where security is a concern, we offer vandalproof commercial lighting fixtures available in die cast aluminum housing with super-tough refractor lens. Available in high, medium or low-wattage options, these virtually unbreakable fixtures come housed in either die cast aluminum or heavy gauge steel, and a polycarbonate refractor lens. You may also choose from fluorescent, high pressure sodium, or metal halide lamp options.

At Residential Landscape Lighting & Design, we have access to a full range of commercial lighting options suited to the many needs and concerns facing business owners today. Well Lights Accent Any Outdoor Feature with an Element of Mystery

What are well lights?
Well lights lie concealed within the ground and up light surrounding terrain, architecture, and vegetation. Grade level well lights create the optical effect of light coming from the earth itself. Well lights accent both landscape and architectural features, and they provide ambient and accent lighting for trees, monumentation, gardens, atriums, and foliage.

Should I choose high voltage or low voltage?
That depends on whether you intend them for commercial or home landscape lighting. Business owners almost unanimously choose high voltage lighting due to the exceptionally bright levels of light produced by HID floodlights, and the high level of durability that high voltage lighting is generally known for.

Residential clients tend to gravitate more toward low voltage well lights or a hybridization of low voltage and high voltage well light fixtures. If a yard is big enough that it requires flood lighting, one can configure the system with floodlights in either corner of the yard to keep the property safe, then install low voltage lights throughout the interior landscape to showcase trees, ornamentation, foliage, gardens, and flower beds.

How do I know which fixture build to choose?

Moisture content and saline content of the atmosphere is the primary determining factor in making this choice. Some metals will not last long in coastal areas where there are high levels of salt in the air. Residential Landscape Lighting and Design organizes the major lamping options for grade level well lights under fixture category build so clients and design firms can quickly find the light source they require by simply going to the fixture material category and browsing through the options contained therein. The following is a general breakdown of what we offer:

Aluminum well lights offer the benefit of a very durable and cost effective fixture material source.
Both large and small companies can take advantage of the savings offered by aluminum well lights. Smaller single site companies can invest more in a designer’s creative services and less in the equipment itself---provided they are in a geography with low levels of salt content in the atmosphere.

Because RLLD has so many clients in coastal areas with high saline content in the atmosphere, we also provide identical lamping options in brass and copper well light fixtures.
Brass and copper offer an exceptional resiliency to both humidity and salt air, and clients living near beaches can light their weekend properties with the same lighting design techniques as inland companies and homeowners. We also recommend considering investing in LED lighting for additional cost savings in this area. Beach homes are by no means inexpensive, and the power saving benefits of LED well lights offer a substantial reduction in operating costs in popular coastal resort areas.

There are many different lamping options available in each of our fixture categories. It is wise to read through our entire selection, as well as consulting with a specialist to ensure you have selected the most appropriate components for your needs.

Home theater lighting requires a blend of task lighting via indirect means and accent lighting techniques.

What is the most important factor in home theater lighting?
As this is a complex science, it is hard to isolate a “most important factor.” One critical factor is vertical positioning of fixtures along walls, and the horizontal distance between each fixture. Proper elevation and spacing of the right fixtures wired to dimmers and automated controls then allow the host to discreetly control illumination and synchronize it with the action and sensibility of the movie. Think of the first step in the process as not so much a matter of lighting itself, but from the standpoint interior decorating that unites design with a bit of science.

The next step is then to determine fixture style, which adds a physical dimension to light’s ethereal value and serves to differentiate the home theater as a separate element of the home whose design actually reflects the genres most preferred by the viewing audience. RLLD provide a wide range of decorative choices to both meet the unique aesthetic demands of home theater lighting and to compliment the broad spectrum of interior decorating styles that characterize the most unique room into today’s modern home.

What section provides the best ceiling lights to center illumination above the room?
Our contemporary home theater lighting section has a great number of dome lights you might want to take a careful look at. A dome light above a home theater will greet arriving guests, then dim as sconces along walls light up just enough to shift mood and provide adequate light for visibility.

What is the most popular style of home theater lights currently being sold on your site?
This is hard to quantify, but industry trends show that the Craftsman & Mission style home theater lighting continues to maintain its momentum as a popular decorative trend among young professionals and families alike. We have an entire section dedicated to this motif in which you can find a number of innovative fixtures styles for subtle indirect lighting methods that our free consultants can teach you how to create if you want to add an extra touch of the avant-garde to the mix.

Is it possible to use crystal fixtures for lighting a home theater?
Absolutely! Especially if you live in a custom home, or if you want to create an atmosphere devoted to the classics of cinema, we strongly recommend crystal fixtures. Crystal home theater lighting works extremely well for those who host formal parties and include home theater as part of an evening’s agenda. They also offer maximum benefit for those decorators who wish to definitively emphasize the fixture itself and who also want to add a sophisticated old world touch to an ultra-modern, technical phenomenon.

I take a Spartan approach to decorating. What home theater lights work best for this effect?
Iron and rustic fixtures theater lighting will definitely look Spartan. They will also work exceptionally well when used to light home theater rooms within homes with strong art deco leanings. A one light fixture above the doorway replaces the generic exit sign of the public theater with a touch of light and decorative functionality.

How can mini sconces add to a traditional design for home theater lighting?

Mini sconces are ideal for keeping lights dim in home theaters that are decorated with bright furnishings and art. They cast the light upward and in many ways directly reflect the lighting patterns of public theater lights.

What does Transitional Lighting mean?
Basically, it means the midpoint between the contemporary and the traditional. Flush mount home theater lights are a hot item with decorators with eclectic flair, showing no metal and making the wall itself to emanate windows of light. These fluorescents provide a soft white light that does not create reflective glare.

Home theater lighting requires a blend of task lighting via indirect means and accent lighting that offers the option of on-command special effects. If this seems overwhelming at first glance, don’t despair. Call us at 800-239-2939 for free advice on how to configure your own home theater lights, and click here now to view our entire selection in detail to start choosing your fixtures today.

Lighting designers have more options when they choose RLLD as their vendor for outdoor lighting wall mount fixtures.

What exactly are outdoor wall mounted lighting fixtures, and how do they work?
Outdoor wall mount light fixtures are permanently attached and wired to the side of a wall. They offer both an aesthetic and functionality to a variety of residential and commercial environments. One outstanding feature highly valued among business owners and homeowners is the ability of outdoor wall mounted light fixtures to withstand the vicissitudes of weather. Many regions of the United States and Canada are particularly humid and endure heavy rainfall throughout much of the year. For companies and homes in these regions, outdoor wall mounted lights provide a highly attractive, reliable source of illumination that enhances architecture and compliments landscape and outdoor lighting systems. Our online inventory categorizes outdoor wall mount fixtures by lamp options, and we include within these categories a variety of fixture, glass and finish options to comprehensively address the full gamut of aesthetic needs our many clients bring to the table.

What is the most energy efficient outdoor wall mount light fixture?
Fluorescent lights are currently the best option for those seeking bright light and lower energy overhead. This is especially true for commercial facilities such as warehouses, which need to light the perimeter and sidewalks around the building itself. The power saving efficiency of fluorescent technology combined with recent advances in ballast technology make them an ideal choice for organizations. Many of our models as well offer the added value of photocell timers that save power even more by turning the system on at dusk and off at dawn.

What is the best application for HID wall mounts?
HID wall mounted lighting fixtures are best utilized as commercial lighting compliments. High pressure sodium fixtures make them ideal for casting a bright circle of light around the perimeter of office buildings, parking areas, loading docks, and sidewalks.

What type of fixture works good over entrances and windows?
Incandescent wall mount lighting fixtures make ideal entryway lights for people moving in and out of buildings because they emit such a high level of bright light. Not only can businesses use these fixtures to maximize building safety, but also homeowners can install them over garage and work shed entrances. They also look equally attractive along the front or back walls of a residence with a long back porch. Since some people prefer to have more of a “fixture” than glass, and others prefer to minimize the metallic in favor of either clear or translucent glass, we carry incandescent wall mounted lights in both structural types. We provide both brass and bronze finishes for those looking to match decorum to specific period styles and decorative trends as well as those looking for the very best glasswork to distribute illumination.

Outdoor Wall Mount Light Fixture Accessories
Be sure as well when purchasing any outdoor wall mounted lighting fixtures to check with either the owner or your lighting design client to clarify their expectations for physical aesthetics. Often times people select the very best fixtures and lamping options for their needs, only to realize after the fact that the mounting itself looks to stark in contrast to the adjoining wall. For situations where a seamless blend is the most desirable fit, consider using wall-mounting accessories such as solid brass cap mounting pedestals, or rectangular brass canopies that help the lighting fixture to appear as part of the wall itself.

Lighting designers have more options when they choose RLLD as their vendor for outdoor lighting wall mount fixtures. Recessed Commercial Accent Lighting Fixtures Add Mood & Ambiance To Any Space!

What benefits do commercial accent lighting fixtures offer?
Commercial accent lighting fixtures can help minimize liability by reducing safety hazards resulting from poor lighting conditions. They can also help improve security with increased illumination that down lights and area and dispels shadows from an overhead position. At the same time they maintain facility aesthetics by working to conceal their own appearance. While this is more of an intangible value than a tangible one, it no doubt stands to reason that a more attractive facility is better for morale, and more motivating to clients as a preferred vendor for business. A third benefit they offer is one of convenience. Because these recessed lighting fixtures are adjustable, commercial maintenance crews can handle any necessary fine-tuning without having to call a lighting consultant on site every time there is an issue with positioning.

What recessed accent lights offer the best financial return on investment?
Without a doubt, this would be HID recessed housing and trims. While HID admittedly costs more on the front end than other lamp types, it consumes less energy and requires the lowest frequency of replacement and maintenance. For companies looking to obtain a long-term ROI on procurement costs, HID is an excellent path to take towards better lighting and greater cost efficiency.

Our building is old and has non-insulated ceilings. What fixtures do you recommend?
Incandescent commercial accent lights in recessed housings and accompanying trims often feature thermal protection for non-insulated ceilings. We recommend these as the best course of action when there is any concern about fire hazard. We also strongly recommend you have your electrical wiring double-checked and talk to one of our specialists prior to working around any old wires or retrofitting outdated equipment.

Do you carry low voltage recessed accent lights that can be adjusted to light a large area?
Yes. Our lamping options offer 50W bulbs that deliver a clear, visible distribution of light around the area. These are considered special order items, and again, as in These are special order items, and we recommend speaking with a specialist on how best to integrate them into both security and aesthetic lighting systems.

We are a small public theater under a strict lease that prohibits cutting into ceilings. What recessed adjustable accent lighting do you have that can meet these requirements?
In your instance we recommend retrofit recessed accent lights. These are common in the arts community, being frequently seen in museums, libraries, and smaller art galleries. They mount directly to the ceiling without damaging the surface, and they and do a fantastic job of highlighting scene and action. RLLD carries both spotlights and gimbals that can easily accommodate the needs of both fine theater and musical productions on small or mid-sized stage.

We have a sloped ceiling. What do we do for that?
Sloped ceilings present a problem because they simply do not provide a convenient surface into which one can install a recessed lighting fixture. While it is true that many accent lights will physically fit a sloped ceiling, it is not true that they will functionally fit the ceiling. Furthermore, standard fixtures cannot be adequately adjusted to deliver a quality beam spread. Adjustable recessed accent housings and trims especially designed for sloped ceilings resolve this dilemma with socket aiming mechanisms that allow lamps to be aimed straight regardless of ceiling pitch and with captive bar hangers and telescoping housings that allow for precise vertical positioning and lock down.

Enter stage left the Phantom Projector—the solution to all fine art lighting needs.

This feature-rich fine art lighting projector represents the highest level of lighting technology engineering that a fine art projector can boast. The Phantom fine art lighting projector is an ideal replacement for eyeball fixtures or picture frame lights. Because it hides unnoticed near the ceiling, the viewer sees only the artwork, not the overhead fixture. The Phantom fine art projector combines precise optics and sophisticated masking techniques to keep the light beam itself invisible and allow the collector to shape the luminous field to the exact dimensions of a painting or the specific contours of a sculpture.

Are Phantom Fine Art Lighting Projectors Expensive to Operate and Maintain?
No they are not. These low voltage framing projectors are high performance instruments and designed specifically for the illumination of art or sculptures and represent one of the most dramatic ways to showcase your collection on the market today. Their proprietary method of lighting—found only in Phantom series—has been dubbed in the art world as “the lighted from within” effect, and it is truly magical in its effects.

Are they easy to install?
Yes, but you might want to have a professional installer do this for you because there is wiring involved and work around the ceiling necessary. These fine art lighting projectors will not visibly damage or alter your ceiling, however. We currently have six different lines of fine art lighting projectors available, each featuring unique mounting options that make installation seamless and eliminate damage to ceilings. Some install into ceilings at time of construction; others are made for retrofitting to existing ceilings using a proprietary remodel housing ring for flush and semi flush mounting from below. We also have one series line that features a purely surface mount for ceilings with no corresponding attic or second floor.

What can Phantom Fine Art Projectors be used for?
They are perfect for replacing that existing eyeball fixture or other accent lights currently illuminating your art. A combination of precision optics and a variety of masking techniques allows the installer to shape the light to follow the exact contour of the object. The shutter is very easy to adjust, making light level and beam control easy even for the beginning art collector or fine art lighting consultant. For three dimensional artwork or irregular pieces, we recommend you use RLLD metal containment kits to fit light to contour.

Who Can Benefit Most From Phantom Fine Art Lighting Projectors?
Virtually anyone who collects and showcases art of any kind will never look back to previous generations of art lighting technology. Art openings can achieve a level of sophistication heretofore not seen with the lighted from within luminosity these fixtures will create around the works of vibrant, emerging artists from tomorrow’s generation of geniuses. User-friendly controls will make them easy for both curators and eclectic home collectors to make any necessary adjustments. Both the resale value and the value to posterity can be preserved with fine art projector lighting projectors available now through RLLD and drop shipped directly from the Phantom Lighting Factory to professional curators and private aficionados alike.

RLLD Cable Lighting Systems Make Down Lighting & Accent Lighting A Snap!

What exactly do cable lights do?

Cable light fixtures hang suspended from parallel cables over a room, near or just under the ceiling. When installed properly, the cables cannot easily be seen. This makes the lights appear to defy the law of gravity. Cable lights work exceptionally well in rooms with very high ceilings, such as those found in the leasing offices for upscale urban lofts, and also large showrooms where special events are held. In fact, the higher the lights are positioned, the better the effects will be.

Is it difficult to design one of these systems?

Nothing is difficult if you break it down into simple components. Cable lighting systems are easy to design once you understand which components you will need to create the desired light levels and colors. RLLD’s selection is conveniently categorized into component groupings that make it possible to custom build an entire cable lighting system as if out of thin air.

Low Voltage Lighting and Outdoor Lighting Transformers

What benefits do low voltage outdoor lighting offer?
Virtually any business or individual can benefit significantly from either a completely low voltage or hybridized low voltage outdoor lighting system. Low voltage systems provide excellent decorative light and can be use to highlight gardens, fountains, terraces, walkways, and front and back yards. The opportunity for special effects and layered lighting techniques increases dramatically if one installs a low voltage outdoor lighting system or a transformer that adds a low voltage segment to an existing landscape design.

Will low voltage lighting save money?
Investing in a low voltage lighting system can also create immediate energy savings on every subsequent power bill. Also, in some parts of the country, businesses in remote, environmentally sensitive areas are sometimes governed by strict environmental laws regarding pollution and hazards to wildlife. Installing a low voltage lighting system that will not harm animals can conceivably prevent penalties and liabilities, and even help a company’s public relations. Some commercial insurance providers may also be willing to adjust rates favorably for clients on the basis that outdoor lighting transformers and low voltage outdoor lights represents a very significant and reliable reduction of fire hazard. RLLD does not guarantee this, of course, but we do recommend at least looking into the possibility.

What role do outdoor lighting transformers play in low voltage systems?
Outdoor lighting transformers allow for the creation and installation of low voltage lighting systems. They efficiently and safely convert line voltage (120V current) to low voltage (12V current. By reducing power consumption in this manner, outdoor lighting transformers eliminate the risk of electrical shock to children and pets, and they reduce electrical usage and subsequently help generate reduced power costs. Outdoor lighting transformers are a favored accessory applauded by residential and commercial clients alike because they allow lighting systems to stay on all night and automatically shut lighting systems off when the sun rises. When looking through our impressive selection today, pay careful attention to a number of key features that distinguish Residential Landscape Lighting’s outdoor transformers as superior, commercial grade units capable of powering any lighting system designed for commercial or residential outdoor lighting.

What transformer types does RLLD carry?
Our selection of outdoor lighting transformers consists primarily of magnetic lighting transformers or power supplies. Magnetic units are used in lighting systems where the actual size of the transformer does not have to exactly correlate to the wattage of the fixtures being used. Because many RLLD clients are landscaping and lighting design companies themselves who are seeking equipment with which to serve their clientele, we categorize our inventory by wattage capacity to make purchasing a quick and simple process. Residential homeowners with a creative flair who are looking to light their own home landscapes can determine the required wattage in their order by following the same simple rule of thumb that commercial clients of RLLD follow in choosing transformers for outdoor lighting. A transformer’s wattage should total the sum of the wattage of all attached fixtures and accessories. We have several outdoor lighting transformers designed for both new systems and retrofitted upgrades to existing systems. Many of these outdoor transformers control lighting systems with photometric timers. These timers sense when dawn begins to break and power off the landscape lights as a result. To protect vital components from elemental forces, outdoor lighting transformers are also made from very durable materials such as heavy extruded aluminum housing, and rain-tight enclosures to ensure a long life and to operate safely at high temperatures.

Did you know that landscaping lighting kits are able to light trees as well as landscapes?

We seldom ever see a municipality or business entity with no trees whatsoever on property. We have yet to run across a homeowner with no trees in the yard, although we suspect that a few exist somewhere out there. Because of this fact, almost every landscape lighting kit we provide contains a down lighting as well as up lighting components. These are directional terms only do not refer to anything mysterious or technically complicated about landscape lighting kits themselves. Mercury Vapor Down Lighting means exactly what it says—shining light downward toward the ground, and up lighting means to shine the light upward. To effectively show all parts of a tree in the dead of night, one must combine these two lighting techniques so as to “wash” the tree in light. This allows viewers to clearly see the differentiation between leaves, branches, and the trunk regardless of viewing angle. Both sets of lights also have to be positioned in such a way as to illuminate the entirety of the tree’s canopy and not just the middle, vertical core.

Isn’t landscape lighting only something a professional can do?
Not necessarily. Landscape lighting kits enable private individuals to be their own lighting designers, particularly when it comes to lighting their favorite trees in both front and back yards. Provided that you are physically fit enough to climb a tree, and use environmentally safe tools that will not damage the tree, lighting and low voltage landscaping kits can transform your dark tree line along a fence or wall into an illuminated edifice of organic browns and living green. In the fall, the changing colors of leaves adds even more effect through Nature’s own hand, and even in the death of winter a well-lighted tree still speaks to the potential for new life in the Spring to come.

How do you know which landscape lighting kit to choose?
With a bit of simple math, you can quickly and easily determine tree canopy size by multiplying the width and height of the tree in feet. By then assessing the density of foliage and using your own best judgment to determine exactly how much emulated moonlight you personally prefer for a particular tree, you can easily find the high voltage landscape lighting kit just right for your favorite tree. RLLD has also included a corresponding chart to help you select the precise wattage level required for a tree of particular size and the necessary luminance to achieve optimal visibility according to one’s own outdoor decorative style and taste.

RLLD lighting specialists will help any serious inquirer at no cost.
For detailed product specifications, click on any of the landscaping lighting kits inventoried in this section of our website. Flush mount lights provide a wide range of unique fixture styles and lighting levels for outdoor lighting of all kinds and places

How do I know which outdoor flush mounts to buy for my home, and which ones to place where?

The best place to begin is by taking some measurements first. The actual height and width of the ceiling and sidewall form the first set of guidelines for selecting the type of outdoor flush mounts you will use. A good rule of thumb to follow is: the lower the ceiling and the busier the traffic, the harder the fixture glass needs to be to prevent accidental breakage.

The circumference of the area to be lit is the next consideration to take into account. Areas where you will be entertaining guests need a broad, evenly distributed circle of light that both contains the activity and safely illuminates the area.

Surprisingly, clear glass often provides the highest level of sophisticated decoration and conjunctive luminosity in such instances. This is because clear glass can be blown with either beveled surfaces or multiple, refractive facets that scatter light like a prism. A flush mount light with a refractive clear glass fixture housing not only disperses the light over a wide area, but also hides the incandescent filament within, making the fixture itself appear as the source of light.

Do you have low voltage flush mount lighting fixtures?

All RLLD flush mount lights are 120V, so energy efficiency comes by selecting fluorescent bulbs as a functionally oriented lighting source alternative to incandescent bulbs. Garages, workshops, and other task-oriented areas can be just as well-lit by a fluorescent overhead as they can by an incandescent, and due to the fact they are left on longer, lower monthly electric bills add up over a period of many months to recreate a noticeable return on investment.

What specific types flush mount lights do you carry? Do you have any that are purely function or purely decorative?

The beauty of flush mounted outdoor lighting it that it combines to some degree the functional and the decorative in any piece you choose. Some models, of course, tend more toward the aesthetic while others are obviously designed more for lighting work areas like garages and sheds. Consequently, Residential Landscape Lighting and Design carries a wide range of flush mount types for outdoor lighting that address the broad spectrum of needs in a very highly diverse marketplace.

Some homes already have such powerful flood and landscape lights that they only require a decorative touch added to porch and patio ceilings. For these dwellings, we offer ornately designed outdoor flush mounts that feature soft white light and either globe or circular fixture design.

Lighting design consultants working in larger or custom-style homes can also recommend to their clients one of our many hand blown hanging lantern or brass finished flush mount lighting fixtures. These feature powerful incandescents whose photo metrics are refracted by the pattern of the hand blown glass in such a way as to create a bright luminous field of light around family and friends and compliment the home exterior with a traditional, early American-style or contemporary decorative flush mount fixture.

For outdoor walkways with overheard ceilings, RLLD provides its clients with a number of ceramic fixture designs that superbly compliment any row of wall sconces along the wall beneath. They can also be used as a porch light in certain instances, although for lower porch ceilings we recommend high impact glass porch lights that are designed specifically to minimize the risk of accidental breakage.

Contact RLLD at 800-239-2939 to find dozens of highly individualized models for specific lighting needs, and click here to read more about outdoor flush mounts in our full-length article on this subject.

Is it possible to decorate an entire home with lighted topiary trees?

In fact, almost all of our customers buy several topiary trees during the holiday season because we have everything they need to decorate both indoors and out. We have topiary trees that range in size from tabletop displays to trees taller than a person. Some topiaries are more ornamental, and are designed more for illumination. Residents in smaller homes and apartments can even use a topiary as the main tree, if they so prefer. Larger homes can use a standard tree as the central piece and use artificial topiaries that look organic for every other room in the home, both yards, the driveway, and even table decorations.

The possibilities of decorating with topiaries make decorating the Christmas tree seem two-dimensional in comparison!

A “Topiary” is literally a “sculpted tree,” and the term can either refer to an organic plant or artificial work of art. Although our trees are artificial, they bring a sense of life through art that transcends the temporal and the organic. Our larger lighted topiary trees contain so many lamps that they look as though they were made from light itself. Some even look like Santa’s elves, and make a front yard dance with music and form.

The following are a few suggestions on decorating key parts of your home with artificial topiaries.

The Front Door
Use two of our 7’ topiary trees positioned on either side of the doorway. Each one contains 400 lights each. Add decorative accent to your topiary artificial trees by “planting” them in flowerpots or baskets. The combined illumination will be enough to light your entire front door.

The Foyer
This is the first room people see when they come to visit. Put a small table in the center, just against the wall, and on top of the table place a 30” multi ball topiary. Featuring 35 lamps shaped like Christmas balls, it looks like a miniature Topiary Christmas tree that lights the way to the larger tree in the main dining, living, or family area.

The Bedroom
For a touch of romance, consider purchasing a tree with heart-shaped branches that foreshadow the approach of Valentine’s Day, not with darkness, but with light.

For any table area, try a small 25” harvest topiary tree. Featuring pumpkin, squash, and berries, it comes with 35 lighting lamps and adds an excellent visual compliment to the aesthetic elements of a full course Christmas dinner. It also reminds people to be thankful even though Thanksgiving has officially passed, and it brings variety to holiday decorum by moving past the generic with combined holiday themes.

The Front Yard
Decorate your yard with artificial topiary trees that look like elves made of light. They look so lifelike that they catch the eye twice. The first time you look, you see an elf. Then you look again and see a tree that appears to be playing musical instruments. It’s a wonderful display to get the attention of the whole neighborhood. Each elf contains 400 lights and either plays the drums, blows a horn, or twirls a baton. Buy all three and put them around Santa and his reindeer, and your home will be the one house everyone stops to look at.

RLLD Christmas and Hanukah Lighted Sculptures change all of this by letting designers, retailers, and homeowners match holiday wishes to holiday light

Businesses in particular need as many aesthetic options as possible to match decorum to seasonal sales and marketing themes they may be running for the season.
Because the holidays bring such heavy traffic to malls and department stores, it is never wise to choose from a limited selection just to cut costs on lighting sculptures and decorations for Christmas. People are drawn to light, and light sculptures represent iconography and symbols that people associate with Christmas and Hanukah on a deep, subconscious level. As such, hiring a designer who works in partnership with RLLD, or consulting with an RLLD expert free of charge to develop a lighting theme on one’s own, provides a retail storeowner or manager with the widest set of positive variables that maximize advertising, merchandising, and sales at this crucial time of year end closeout.

RLLD’s Christmas lighted sculptures and Hanukah decorations range from small, medium, and large models in size, allowing a business to decorate everything from the countertop to the main windows and floor space with images that compliment shopping with holiday spirit.
Commercial holiday lighting designers can recommend entire themes and sub themes to their retail clients, pointing out that energy efficiency and longevity of equipment makes the initial front end purchase an investment that will convey in years to come a return on investment. This unites decorum with practicality, and increases profits on both sides of the proposal. Likewise, freelance interior designers can cost effectively dazzle their residential clients with creativity that appears magical, free flowing, and conceived with true heart.

Commercial grade Christmas lighted sculptures available through Residential Landscape Lighting and Design offer a better level of durability and longevity than retail-grade equivalents.
Many of our lighted sculptures feature low voltage engineering designed especially for minimizing heat radiation and cutting power costs. For those who decorate with a religious motif in mind, we have Christmas decorations and Hanukah symbols that represent both the triumph of Israel and the birth of Jesus Christ. Familiar Christian and Jewish symbols can be found in RLLD’s online inventory like the Star of Bethlehem and the Star of David. We have all sizes of holiday light sculptures available in our inventory as well.

More neutral, secular displays can be created with any number of lighted sculptures representing Santa, Rudolph, or scores of Disney characters in holiday scenes.
A number of familiar decorative adjuncts can seamlessly compliment lights and party decorations, such as snowflake designs, or everyone’s famous comical Christmas villain: the Grinch. Larger Christmas lighting sculptures of Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer will look nice in any retail parking lot or front yard.

LED Christmas Light Strings from Residential Landscape Lighting & Design

Restaurants no longer have to cut corners on decorative costs to save money on holiday overhead. In spite of the fact that restaurants stay open for longer hours between Christmas and New Years, and consequently pay higher light and heating bills, they don’t have to cut out holiday lighting to save on expenses. LED Christmas string lights eliminate the need to make these kinds of sacrifices. With the right combination of Christmas LED lights and string light commercial power taps, restaurant owners can decorate patios, shrubbery, trees, entrances, fountains, and foyers with strategic, innovative lighting design. RLLD’s commercial grade LED string light power taps actually divide the current of a primary circuit, allowing multiple strings fitted with commercial grade LED bulbs to connect to a select number of outlets. Because LED’s operate at cool temperatures and consume only 10-20% the amount of power consumed by other lights, they will not overload circuits. With just a few power taps, extension sets, and any number of commercial grade bulbs, the entire facade of the restaurant stays lit all night with minimal power cost.

With the right adapters and extension sets, an entire storefront can be both horizontally and vertically “framed” in red, green, yellow, or even purple lights. LED Christmas lighting strings also make excellent window enhancements. Many large department stores lace the upper areas of their window displays with commercial grade 4 and 6 inch led Christmas lights on strings. For display windows with curtains, LED Christmas string lights by nature operate at cool temperatures and offer a accent lighting that will not heat the material and adds color and illumination to design throughout the night. Clothing stores and accessories shops frequently add this touch to attract attention from passing window shoppers. For store interiors, the possibilities are as wide ranging as the number of departments and types of merchandise. Some retail managers even decorate walls interior entrances with LED Christmas string lights to attract customers to key areas of the stores. Others in multi-storied department stores may use them on stairways or escalators. Because LED light bulbs are so difficult to break, they offer a durable source of lighting in heavy foot traffic and places where children occasionally play.

Party Hosts
When people host parties, they often host them at home and want to congregate the guests in certain areas and keep other parts of the home private. Believe it or not, LED Christmas string lights can actually help accomplish this in a very subtle, unassuming way. The right set of string lights helps to designate a separate space for the party decorative cues that point the crowd in a certain direction and say, “this is where the party is really happening.” One of our more popular lines for Christmas party lighting is the LED G-12 Christmas light string, featuring four-inch bulbs available in four bright, differentiated colors. It looks like a holiday light but is obviously not a typical Christmas tree light or standard decorative piece. It works exceptionally well to differentiate key areas of the party as separate from more private areas of a home or office. One can even buy four different sets in four different colors, each one for a separate area like a patio, a large front porch, a dining room, and the kitchen/bar area.

Click here now to read more and browse through our online catalogue to view all that we have to offer now. Be sure to call 800-239-2939 today as well place your order just in time for Christmas.

Commercial Lighting Pole Mounting Adapters

Residential Landscape Lighting and Design offers two specific types of mounting adapters for commercial lighting poles: round mounting arms and square mounting arms.

Round mounting arm adapters for commercial light poles support any number of halide security floodlights and will also dual function as mounts for security cameras on shorter poles when fitted to the pole with slip adapters. This allows the camera to be vertically positioned at the exact height desired.

RLLD offers an impressive selection of round mounting arms that feature heavy-duty polyester powder coated steel tubing. They are highly resistant to the corroding influences of bad weather. Double reinforced weld joints hold them securely to any steel or wooden lighting pole and offer 90 degree, 120 degree, and 180-degree angles. Adjacent commercial light poles with mounting adapters can then be equipped with heavy duty bullhorns and floodlights, such as RLLD Floodinator, Megaflood, Floodzilla, and Flex flood models.

Square adapter mounting arms work extremely well with TV, TH, and RV series brackets and work well will RLLD’s RTB series tenons. Slip fitters can also be fitted to these adapters to allow for precise vertical positioning.

For larger parking lot lighting and commercial light pole mounting adapters, RLLD inventories a selection of square mounting arms that feature 4” bases and tenons engineered for heavy-duty support of metal halide and parking lot lights.

Very often, corporations and municipalities can save a great deal of money by investing in adapters and fixtures and simply fitting them to existing lighting poles. This is much more cost effective than replacing an entire parking lot lighting system when one may only need to replace fixtures, or add additional fixtures at different angles on tenons that create a more evenly distributed pattern of lighting.

Choosing from all these many options may seem a daunting task to procurement managers and even contractors at times. That is why RLLD provides free consultation services to help clients select the best commercial lighting adapters, mounts, and poles either through our “Ask an Expert” online forum or through a phone consultation during business hours.

It is vitally important to explore all of ones options before investing in any type of major parking lot lighting upgrade, new parking lot light installation, or commercial security lighting and security camera equipment.

With the help of an RLLD expert, it becomes a simple matter of finding all the equipment you require in one simple, user friendly online supply-house vendor with world class commercial grade manufacture, convenient drop shipping straight to install location, and all the help you need to make the best decisions and receive maximum return on safety, security, and investment.

A great way to begin dialogue with our team of experts is to click here to first study some of the many models we carry, then use our Ask and Expert forum to field specific inquiries on which adapter mounts will work best for your particular commercial lighting requirements. Commercial Pole Lighting Hardware and Accessories

Mounts and bases are among the more important hardware elements of any commercial light pole.
The base of any pole has to be firmly bracketed to the concrete so that it maintains a 90° angle to the surface of the earth at all times. Unfortunately, most pole bases don’t look all that appealing. With the addition of a simple accessory found in our online inventory—a square pole base cover—the pole appears more seamlessly attached to the earth and also more aesthetically appealing as a result.

Tenon arm mounts make an even more important impact on aesthetics for a number of reasons.
First, tenon arm mounts maintain the fixture in place and must hold that position firmly in spite of problematics such as wind velocity, accidental impacts, and the force of gravity. Secondly, the mount itself must be attractive enough to blend into the piece but “low profile” nonetheless in that it does not dominate the landscape.

Mounting brackets function are essential commercial pole lighting hardware accessories that come in many sizes and builds to fit the circular and square pole builds we supply.
They can both cap the top of a pole to add a decorative touch and horizontally extend fixtures outward from the sides of the pole. For certain designs, be sure to look carefully as well at our horizontal wall mounts and glare reducing shields for fixtures as well. These highly effective commercial pole lighting hardware accessories prove highly useful to custom architectural and landscape lighting design themes.

RLLD also has over 20 specific models of tenon adapters that both vertically and horizontally mount a number of fixtures. These tenons work well with an enormous range of commercial grade light poles, among which are certain low voltage security lights.

RLLD Delivers Commercial Parking Lot Light and Pole Packages

Why should I order parking lot lights and poles in a package?

Ordering parking lot poles and lights either as upgrades or emergency replacements is not an easy task, nor does it leave little, if any, margin for error. Because commercial parking lot lighting is to security, it must not only meet regulatory standards for illumination, but also strength, resistance, and light distribution requirements as well. Customers often feel overwhelmed when it comes to choosing specific luminaries, determining pole height, and matching fixture and pole EPA value to wind velocities in the area. Residential Landscape Lighting and Design offers less stress to the client and the help of a professional designer in working out the math by packaging commercial parking lot lights and poles with calculations and combinations worked out in advance. RLLD also provides complimentary detailed, technical information and consultation services that further customize every commercial parking lot pole lighting package we sell the to client’s precise location and industry requirements.

What advantage does a package offer?

The most important factor to take into account when configuring any commercial parking lot lighting layout is EPA compliance. The Environmental Protection Agency regulates both light placement and distribution of commercial parking lot lighting fixtures and pole heights. Fixture values regulate the angles at which the lights themselves distributes the illumination, and pole EPA value directly references the ability of a commercial parking lot light pole to withstand specific wind velocities already determined meteorologically to be standard for a given region. Many clients prefer to have an RLLD expert design a commercial pole and lighting package for them because it is more time-saving and efficient to allow an expert in lighting already familiar with EPA values to help them select the right package for their needs, then further recommend any necessary customizations required by circumstance and law.

What are the poles and lights themselves like?

Several important features of our packaged commercial parking lot lights bear contribute to these key benefits. For winds of 80-100 miles an hour that often gust from the Dakotas to Texas and Florida, it is wise to utilize commercial parking lot light poles made with one-piece construction out of a shaft of carbon steel. These poles are square in design to remain firmly fixed in the pavement, but they have rounded corners to better enable wind to pass around them. Every one of these packages proportionally matches specific EPA pole values to EPA fixture values, offering a number of mounting arms and tilting angles that help meet the exact requirements of the region, This makes one parking lot lighting package a commercial value to any one of the many different parts of the country.

Commercial Ceiling Mount Vandal Proof Light Fixtures

RLLD offers four distinct lines of commercial vandal proof ceiling mount fixtures. Each lamping option delivers unique benefits through luminosity and design features that differentiate its value as being optimal for specific environments and/or budgets.

Fluorescent lights combine energy efficiency with vandal proof fixture durability and performance. These ceiling mount vandal proof fixtures come in white and bronze finishes to match ceiling color, and they are UL listed for all regions of the United States. They work equally well in humid and damp areas and in dry arid regions. The refractor is designed for maximum structural strength and consists of a mold of injected polycarbonate. Heavy gauge cold rolled steel with high reflectance baked white enamel makes up the reflector and the backplate.

Read more about the benefits fluorescent lighting in general offers here.

High-pressure sodium lamps offer a compact, high output form of vandal proof lighting in cramped quarters.

As they produce light by passing an arc through sodium gas mixed with other elements, both their lumens per watt output and physical bulb life are the highest producers in our selection of ceiling mounted vandal proof lighting fixtures. RLLD high-pressure sodium fixtures deliver a reliable 24,000 hours of lamp life in almost every situation and lighting environment. Like their fluorescent equivalents, they are designed to optimally perform in damp and wet areas as well as dry regions of the country. We have two models available from which to choose: a low wattage model and a high wattage model. Both come in a similar physical design consisting of die cast aluminum housing with a transparent polycarbonate refractor.

Read about different wattage options available here…

Incandescent ceiling mounted vandal proof light fixtures offer commercial establishments a sturdy fixture with a reflector made from die formed heavy gauge steel in white finish with clear polycarbonate refractor.

Bulbs do not come with these fixtures, but two 75-Watt A-19 incandescent bulbs with medium base measurements can be ordered in conjunction with these units and installed wherever needed. These are good solid light producers for high ceiling areas where glare and bright light will not be a hazard or an eyesore.

Commercial metal halide lamps in vandal proof ceiling mounted fixtures include the same essential specifications of our other models, but they offer an additional point of value through a quartz restrike option that provides immediate illumination in case of momentary power failure.

Our high voltage halide lamps deliver a whopping 150 or 175 watts of power with a lamp life of 10,000 hours. Many commercial clients use halide high-pressure sodium vandal proof lights for adjunct outdoor security lighting. Indoor low voltage equivalents offer the same essential value package with lower wattage and a longer lamp life of up to 15,000 hours.

Read more here about how halide lighting can light large commercial grounds and facilities.

Commercial Fluorescent Light Fixtures Function as Luminary Solutions to Every Challenge of Power and Light

Other than lower electricity costs, do fluorescent lights offer any other benefits that solve actual problems for warehouses?

Yes they do. Fluorescent commercial light bulbs heat than incandescents, and they maintain cooler temperatures in offices and production areas. They also produce a glare free light that is much better for the eyes than that of bright incandescent lights. RLLD fluorescent light fixture technology is designed for glare free comfort, optimal safety, and longer lamp life that require fewer bulb replacements.

What about headaches caused from fluorescent flicker and the yellowish light they cast on the room?

These problems have been eliminated with the next generation of ballasts, which are now electronic as opposed to the magnetic ballasts of earlier decades. Electronic ballasts better regulate electron flow in such as way as to eliminate the stereotypical flicker of previous fluorescent lights or inferior generic equivalents. RLLD’s commercial grade fluorescent light fixtures represent the highest level of equipment engineering and manufacturing quality available in our industry.

My company has both U.S. and Canadian branch facilities. Will your equipment comply with regulations in both countries?

Yes it will. RLLD commercial fluorescent light fixtures are UL/CUL listed as well to ensure value to both U.S. and Canadian business owners. Furthermore, they are optimized for all climates in both nations. We carry a number of commercial fluorescent light fixtures that have been specifically developed for long lamp life in damp regions—regions where incandescents may sometimes short when the humidity levels peak.

In our factory we use a number of material handling tools that occasionally hit the ceiling and break lights. Do you have any fluorescent lighting fixtures that are unbreakable?

There is no such thing as unbreakable, unfortunately. However, we can supply you with impact resistance that minimizes the likelihood of breakage and replacement. Our commercial fluorescent lighting fixtures are manufactured with baked, white enamel finishes and polyester powder coatings that minimize radiant heat. We even have certain high-end models that provide additional fixture protection with rust inhibitors that protect metal parts from oxidation, and low brightness/extruded acrylic refractors that eliminate glare in critical work areas.

We are on a budget. If we switch to commercial fluorescents, how many of our lights should we replace and when should we do this?

That depends partly on where you are located, and partly on how cost effective it is to factor procurement costs offset by overhead spent on power consumption. If you live in California, the sooner you abandon incandescent lighting the better off you will be. According to the new law recently passed, all incandescent lights have to be replaced no later than 2010. Other states may soon follow California’s precedent, so waiting until the last minute could result in a budget crisis compounded by a parts shortage.

Consider the benefits of investing a little more now and saving more from here on out. Read more about specific commercial light fixtures available through RLLD here or by calling 800-239-2939.

What Exactly are Christmas Light Mounting Clips and Why Are They Important?

Mounting clips fasten Christmas lights securely in place to Christmas trees, outdoor walls, and even to the roofs of buildings. RLLD mounting clips are designed in such a way as to accommodate the full range of both commercial and home Christmas decorating needs.

A Christmas lighting decorations and mounts offers a secure, reliable means of positioning a bulb in the precise location necessary to create a sense of balanced aesthetic. Many offer a rotating axis that allows the bulb to be shifted up to 90-degrees. This makes Christmas light mounting clips very affordable and profitable tools that interior decorators and commercial designers can use to create more elaborate designs that better serve and impress their clientele.

Do these clips get in the way of Christmas lights or decorations?
Generally speaking, they are almost never seen unless someone is looking for them because they are either clear or colored green to camouflage their appearance. Christmas mini light clip mounts are made of plastic and are clear in color. They assume an unobtrusive position that makes them almost invisible to the naked eye. They come in packs of 100, which makes it easy for lighting design contractors to order in bulk for major commercial projects.

RLLD CD EZ clips look green and almost natural when fastened to an indoor or outdoor Christmas tree. They feature a 90-degree rotating axis that allows lights to be lifted above the surface of tree branches and other decorated items. These Christmas light mounting clips can also move the lights to either side of a branch if they are clipped onto the tree in a vertical position. This makes the tree itself look more full of light and a bit larger in size.

Does RLLD have anything specifically for retail and outdoor municipal Christmas lighting?
C7 and C9 bulbs are a very good source of light for any department store because of their appearance and their variations in color. RLLD’s C clips fasten C7 and C9 bulbs on a firm mount that measures 1 ¾” in length by 1” in width and 1” in height. They hold lighting strings so securely the bulbs can hang downward if necessary without slipping loose from the fasteners.

Do I need mounting clips to make the lights on my house stand out?
They certainly can’t do anything but help. If you decorate the rooftop of a house or small office with a shingled roof, use biaxial shingle tab mounting clips to enhance the lighting presentation with a horizontal extension into the space beyond the eaves. To raise the lights above the edge of the roof, use bi-axial shingle tabs that elevate light bulb upward at a 90-degree. This makes the whole front of a house or building look a bit taller with light. We even have holiday mounting spikes to outline your sidewalk!

Crystal Chandeliers Add Function and Décor To Almost Any Interior

What is The Most Popular Kind of Chandelier in the World?
The crystal chandelier is the most popular form of chandelier in the world representative of what most people visualize when they hear the word “chandelier.” Crystal differs from glass in many ways too numerous to describe in a blog. The primary difference that most people notice in crystal chandelier fixtures is a “diamond-like” quality to glass produces a dispersal pattern of light that appears both mirror and prism-like in quality.

RLLD offers five major lines of crystal chandelier lighting fixtures that constitute the largest and most diverse percentage of these finely crafted and elegant lights that can center everything from rooms in family residences to entertainment facilities in hotels, country club dining rooms, event facilities, or even casinos throughout the United States and Canada.

What Makes a Chandelier so Unique?
A chandelier combines a number of archetypal symbols into a single fixture that adds function and decor to almost any interior. Glass, crystal, light, metal, and at times even candles each contribute their own unique, respective identities into a combined synergistic array of light, energy, and matter— out of which rises a new form whose very image has become what is quite possibly the world’s most renown and beloved symbol of elegant lighting. The enormous range of manufacture in the world of chandelier makes these fixtures appropriate for almost any environment. Meticulous detail goes into the manufacture of each chandelier light bulb and fixture, as our associate network of manufacturers comprises The Elite in lighting equipment name brand and high-end, commercial grade components.

What Does a Chandelier Do that Other Lights Do Not Do as Well?
Chandelier lights by Residential Landscape Lighting and Design add a refined and ornamental material presence to the light they emit above any table, room, waiting area, or place of business. The material that composes a chandelier’s fixture contributes much to the visual impact it has on surrounding decorations, room atmosphere, and overall decorative theme. The nature of the environment itself also matters a great deal as well in determining what type of chandelier or mini chandeliers to obtain for optimal illumination and aesthetic.

Normally the chandelier functions as the suspended centerpiece over the center of the room or a portion of the room. This allows it to bring both task and functional lighting to its environment or add accent and decorative lighting adjunct to other interior lights in other portions of the room.

Such a range of versatility accounts for much of the chandelier’s enduring popularity for both commercial and residential lighting requirements. Click here to read the full article on chandelier lighting fixtures and see all we have to offer or contact us at 800-239-2939.

Under cabinet lighting from RLLD provides puts the world in a whole new light of décor and functionality…

Residential Landscape Lighting and Design offers a complete selection of under cabinet lighting fixtures and lamps that benefit the full range of residential and commercial clientele who require task and decorative lighting solutions that are practical, aesthetic, and cost effective. On the high-voltage end, we have LED technology that produces minimal heat and only 20% the wattage of other lights. On the low voltage end we have under cabinet puck lights that combine low power with bright light that make it less expensive and much safer to leave the lights on for longer periods of time. We have the very best fluorescent under cabinet lights and shelf lighting fixtures that take budgetary lighting out of the 70’s and into the 21st century.

Fluorescent lamps have always been the most cost effective form of both overhead and under cabinet lighting.

We improved on under cabinet fluorescent lighting technology and eliminated the flicker of older, cheaper bulbs. We now have fluorescent under cabinet lights regulated by ballasts that prevent the lights from flickering when first turned on. We also install better quality bulbs in our fixtures that replace stereotypically “yellowish” fluorescent light with brighter, normal levels of white light. This eliminates both headaches and eyestrain. These lights are for ideal under cabinet kitchen task and decorative accent in older apartment complexes in need of technology upgrades. Their reduced pricing makes them the perfect lighting solution for bulk purchase requirements.

Halogen under cabinet lights offer one of the most effective kitchen lighting solutions on the market.

Fully dimmable and easy to conceal, they give cooks and hosts full control over brightness levels without detracting from decorative kitchen elements or aesthetically centered food preparation. Cooking clubs absolutely love them for these two reasons. Halogen low voltage puck lights provide some of the brightest glare free lighting available on the market. They distribute light superbly through a special frosting on the lens that scatters the illumination evenly throughout the room. Low voltage halogen under cabinet lighting combines brighter light with lower bills.

The most well known benefit of xenon under cabinet lighting is the combination of bright white light and long bulb life these versatile lamps offer.

Xenon under cabinet lights typically last three times longer than halogen lights, and they emit no UV radiation. For any work area or home lighting situation where sensitive documents or even artwork could be damaged with ultraviolet light, xenon under cabinet lighting offers full protection from light’s potentially damaging effects with no sacrifice of its brilliance or effectiveness. For commercial clients who need puck lights in work areas that are poorly air-conditioned, these xenon low voltage under cabinet pucks shield workers from excess heat with a special plastic housing that keeps not only the bills down, but the temperature lower as well.

LED under cabinet lighting takes both task and design to a whole new level of evolution with a technology that by 2020 may be the dominant, preferred method of lighting worldwide.

LED offers 100% UV free under cabinet lighting, but the bulb life is the longest of any light in the world – up to 60,000 hours on the average. LED under cabinet lights offer the very best glare reduction and use only 1-watt of power. Because LED’s use diodes to produce light, neither high voltage nor low voltage under cabinet LED lights require any additional heat shielding or ventilation. Even better, RLLD now has LED under cabinet lights with special radial lenses and prismatic covers that brilliantly distribute light over work surfaces, and just recently we added LED illuminated shelves that combine under cabinet lights and cabinet shelving itself.

Phantom strip lighting is perfect for lighting art objects on display.

Tell me more about your Phantom strip lighting products. I have a series of built-in bookcases in my family room that could sure use some Phantom lighting. My wife has been on me for years to light her collection of porcelains. I read over the information you have posted and it seems like a very unique and effective lighting product. Is this what I should use or do you have other strip lighting products that will do the same thing as Phantom?

We do have many shelf lighting products that could be adapted to your built-in bookcases as well as under cabinet lighting. However, the Phantom Lighting Strips are by far the most custom and adaptable product we sell for display or shelf lighting. Since each Phantom light strip is custom fabricated, we can ship out a lighting package that will fit beautifully and put a smile on your wife's face. All we need is a simple sketch of the cabinets or the measurements to help you place an order. Although we allow you to order online, it is always best to contact customer service to make sure that you have selected the right trim, lamp wattage, low voltage transformer and all the mounting accessories.

The best way to light a bookcase with wood shelves is to light each shelf horizontally so that each cabinet section is evenly illuminated from top to bottom. Cabinets with glass shelves are best lighted with Phantom strips mounted vertically. This is always better than using recessed cans, as each solid object placed on the shelves, creates a shadow on the lower shelves. In some cases, light never makes it to the bottom of the cabinet.

Phantom Lighting can be used in bookcases, antique furniture, shelves, coves, cabinets and many other applications. Feel free to contact us at 800-239-2939 for some assistance. We can send out some specification sheets and or a catalog so that you can decide which model is right for you!

I am looking for a motion control for my security lights

I am tired of going behind my wife to turn off the security flood lights. Do you have any motion sensors that a fairly handy guy can install without calling an electrician? We are on a fixed income and I would really like to solve this problem in the least expensive way.

We have many motion detectors and timers that will solve your security lighting problem. Before doing anything, be sure to turn off the circuit breaker before attempting to install the motion sensor device. I would hate for anything to happen to you.

My favorite motion sensor is the "Goodnight" Tuff Dome from Rab. It has a built in photocell and dimmer control to help extend lamp life and provide a good security lighting solution. Your other options are to replace the existing floods with a package motion kit.

Why don't you contact us or give us a call toll free at 800-239-2939 if those don't meet your requirements and we will pick something else.

Thanks for checking with us and we hope to earn your lighting business!

What is the best landscape light to use near the coast?

I am in the process of redoing my landscaping and wanted to add some low voltage lighting. We live near the coast and I am concerned about salt air and corrosion. Can you please suggest a fixture that will do well in these conditions? I have several Queen Palm trees and other Date Palms to illuminate across the front of my house.

The best low voltage lighting fixtures to use along the coast are copper fixtures or composite fixtures. These small, yet powerful low voltage accent lights are perfect for illuminate small and large Palm trees. Depending on the viewing angle, I would use two or three lights per tree for a spectacular result. The 35-watt MR16 flood lamp option is a good lamp choice due to long lamp life and beam spread in the copper up light fixture. Have you considered using copper path lights near the front door or along the sidewalk? These can be very handy for illuminating the walk and surrounding plant materials. They provide not only a handsome light source but, they provide safety for family and friends.

To finish off the system I would order a low voltage transformer that has a stainless steel or fiberglass enclosure. They come with timer, photocell and dimming options depending on the manufacturer you select. My favorite is from Focus Industries. They simply make a great product!

If you need anymore help, or just want to visit about your lighting project , give us a call toll free at 800-239-2939. We love what we do and are ready to assist you!
