I'm goin to be building an indoor equestrian riding arena measuring about 140x70 and i need some input on what to use for lighting... i would like to use metal halide bulbs but i dont want the hum that they give off... if you have any other suggestions on different fixtures i could use that would be great.

The best lights for your arena are HID floods. HID lamps have the long lamp life coupled with high light output for low wattages. Any HID fixture will require a ballast and may buzz or hum. The alternative is to use incandescent floods. Incandescent lamps have much shorter lamp life and require high wattages for high light output. Incandescent fixtures do not require a ballast and do not buzz or hum.
