I'm looking to use about 8 feet of clear rope light which would be integrated with a magnetic door sensor. When the door is opened, the lights would come on. How can I accomplish this? Specifically, how is the magnetic sensor wired to the rope light?

That's easy.  You need a 12 VOLT TRANSFORMER, an EDWARDS DOOR JAMB SWITCH and a 8' section of 12 V ROPE LIGHT.

You will need to run 120-volt power to the transformer on the primary side and then install the switch on the secondary side of the transformer going to the light.

Sounds like a fun project.  Good luck!
