Question about American Lighting - 4 Light Plug Xe

We would like to install Xenon under cabinet lights. We had a switchable wall plug installed in the upper level of our cabinets. The plug is located in the next cabinet. Is the plug removable so that we can thread the wire through a small hole in the cabinet or should we order the hardwire variety and install our own plug? How do we determine the correct length to illuminate the counter top properly? One cabinet is 4' and the adjacent right angle cabinet is 3' long. We also have two other separate cabinets that are 3' and 4'long.

The idea is to have uniform lighting.  So try and install continous lighting or space the fixtures over the work areas for maximum output.

If you have a switch already in the cabinet you can go either way.  If you get the linkable lights it may be a cleaner approach.  In a normal situation wires would exit the wall at each fixture grouping.
