The best way to address your problem is to add a new receptacle on the front of the house. I agree that it would look tacky on the front porch. Any electrican can install a GFCI protected outlet for you or your handy man. It is really quite simple. Locate an indoor receptacle that you can tap into from the outside. Of course, turn off the circuit breaker if you decide to have your husband do the work.
We have a great selection of OUTDOOR LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING KITS that would work well for your project. Everything you need is in the box and all you have to do is hook up a few wires, plug it in and enjoy. We also have PATH LIGHTS and BOLLARD LIGHTS to go with the low voltage lighting kits.
