This is a 24 volt switch... but I'm looking for one of these that will work in a 12 volt system. Will this one work?

This door jamb ball switch can be used with a 12 volt  lighting system.  This switch should be used in conjunction with a lighting contactor to minimize amperage loads on the switch itself.  This is done by using the switch to pull in the coil which activates the lighting contactor.  So the jamb switch is used to turn on the lighting contactor, not the light itself.

Have you looked at using a line voltage door jamb switch for your lighting fixture?  If you can make the size of this device work, it is a much easier option.
