distance to mount rope lights

I am planning to install rope lights in a sloped soffit area, mounted behind crown moulding. How far away from the wall or ceiling should I mount rope lights to avoid a scalloping effect? Would I be better off with a product that has lamps spaced at 2" OC or 1" OC? If I install a double run for added intensity, do I need to worry about staggering the lamps?

I would allow at least 3" of space between the moulding and the wall to avoid scalloping.  We have a frosted rope light that provides a beautiful smooth distribution.  Yes, you can install several runs to increase light levels and don't worry about staggering the lamps.  You might want to pick up a dimmer to set the mood!
