Why does it beep when the batteries are brand new and takes a day to start beeping after changing the batteries?

Sounds like the Carbon Monoxide Sensor may have some dust or debris which is causing the unit to chirp.  You can try using a spray can of compressed air to blow it out.  Hope that helps!
