We have approx .5 acres backyard just north of San Antonio that we are fencing using 4x4 wooden posts, 3 2x6x8 slats running horizontally, and 2x6x16 boards running along the top to form a ledge that overhangs the fence.I wanted to have some way to 'shed some light' in the backyard and thought about using rope lighting underneath the fence ledge. How do you feel about that? Would you recommend any other type? Also, how would you recommend getting running the lights past the 2 gates we're installing? thanks a bunch.robert.

The 120 volt light rope would be a good application.  The maximum distance you can run is approximately 150 feet per power feed.   To address the gap at the gates I would install a GFCI protected outlet on both sides and run the lights in two directions.  We also have 220 volt light rope if you are interested in longer runs.
