The unit comes with a three prong plug that has a white, red and balck wire.  Should the plug need changing, there is one supplied with the unit.  Just turn off power at panel before changing the SMOKE DETECTOR. I used a kidde smoke detector to replace my old FX1218 by Firex, and I specifically bought it because it used a three prong plug.

When I tried to mount it on the ceiling, I discovered that the battery compartment door attached to the plug got in the way, so I cut it off.  I may not be done yet as I''m still having some issues with the remaining Firex detectors and may just have to replace them all.

Guess I shouldn''t put the stepladder away just yet!

OK, all done now.  I replaced all 5 of my old Firex models with identical Kidde models, and even replaced the wire harness as well.  Much better.  Now I know that they are all compatible with one another, and it wasn''t that expensive!
