I am interesteed in the Lutron Maestro magnetic low voltage dimmer. My question is this---If I have a low voltage track light(12v) and 10 lamps at 20 watts each(200 watts) can the dimmer handle it? I am indecisive because the maximum VA rating is 1000VA. Does the VA get calculated based on the line voltage(120v) or the secondary voltage(12v). If it is based on the line voltage, even though I am only at 200 watts, my VA should be well over 1000VA. Please inform me. Thank you!!!!!!

I would recommend that you use a 600 watt dimmer to handle your 200 watt load. The big question is do you have magnetic or electronic transformers on your fixtures? For magnetic loads you will need the following:

Lutron Dimmers: MALV-600

For electronic loads you will need the following:

Lutron Dimmers: MAELV-600

Please specify the color when ordering.
