I have a low voltage light fixture that I am unable to find a replacement bulb for. The notation on the bulb looks like 12V followed by J156K and then CO. It's a small bulb with a flat black base and 2 pins that bend up on top of the base - 1 on each side. Can you give me suggestions for how I might find a replacement?

You can find this lamp at your local auto parts store.  It is simple a tail light lamp.
