I have approx. 60' run of low voltgage (20 watts) lights I wish to install for a garden path - I would like to install a series of seven (7) lights. What is the appropriate transformer and wire gauge (in ground) I should use? (Please show me the arithmetic used to solve this porblem).  Thanks, waiting for you response.

You should use 12/2 landscape lighting cable for the 140 watts of path lights you are installing.  I would split the lights into two loads seperate cables running back to the transformer.  The longest run with three lights and the other four lights on the second cable. 12/2 landscape cable is good for 20 amps.  By splitting the load you will minimize problems with voltage drop and all the lights will operate at the same intensity.  You could use a 150 watt transformer, but I would puchase a 250 watt transformer so that you can expand the system with a few more lights in the future.

140/12=11.67 amps
