I researched your archives looking for help with my problem and I noticed someone had asked a question which is similar to my dilemma. I purchased a box of 20 low voltage landscape lights(Malibu) at my local Home Depot. I also purchased a Hampton Bay 150W transformer (photo cell) to operate this system.(the same unit mentioned in the archived letter). After I hooked everything up, I noticed the lights came on and flashed like a flashbulb would in a camera, but they wouldn't stay on. They just flashed every 4 or 5 seconds. I noticed that this is the same condition mentioned in one of the letters in the archive. The lights are all 4 watt, and everything is new. I then connected the mechanical clock timer (that came with the new landsape lights) to the lights (replacing the photo cell unit) and all the lights functioned on and off beautifully. Thinking that the problem was a faulty Hampton Bay transformer, I went back to Home Depot and made an exchange. Returning home, I connected the replacement unit, only to discover that it did the same thing the first unit did--the lights flicker, but don't stay on. I then connected the lights to the mechanical clock timer again, and they work just fine. Do you think the problem may be with the Hampton Bay product? The wiring is all new, and I've checked and re-checked all the connections several times. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Sounds like you got a batch of transformers with bad photocells.  I would suggest that you utilize the mechanical timer or consider returning the transformer and buy one from us.  See our 12 volt transformers
