Is it normal for a dimmer switches to get a little warm?

Yes, it is normal for dimmer switches to get a little warm by design.  If they are dangerously hot, and you are concerned, it probably due to an overload condition or the device is installed adjacent to another dimmer.  Dimmers must be derated if ganged together. It is always a good idea to allow a 20% safety factor for any dimmer.  So, if you have a 600 watt dimmer I would not put more than 480 watts on it.  Hope that helps!
