Rather than chisel out the door jamb of my closet I would like to use a switch such as the Edwards Door Jamb Switch EDW44. I would like to simply drill a hole in the door jamb and run low-voltage cable to the existing switch box where I would like to install some sort of control to switch the 120V to the closet light. I could then just cover the switch box with a blank plate. Is this possible and which products would I use?

The Edwards jamb switches are not rated for 120-volt loads.  To utilize this device it must be used in combination with a transformer, relay and/or a lighting contactor.  The advantage to this application is that multiple doors can utilize the same relay making the system more practical and cost efficient.  Contactors are available with coils in 12, 24,120, 208, 240, 277 and 480 volts.  When ordering please specify that you want a 12 or 24 volt coil.
