If you are trying to make a lighted Christmas tree using your flagpole, that sounds pretty cool.  Using the hook on the rope, attach a large plastic tie-wrap or other device that will allow you to safely attach the 15-20 miniature LIGHT STRINGS.  Connect the lights with the male caps on the top, plug them into an extension cord connected to a CFCI receptacle and hoist up the lights.  Once the lights are secure and in position, using small construction wood stakes (from lumber yard) make a circle pattern around the base of the flagpole and attach the lights using smaller tie-wraps or electrical tape.  Since you connected the lights at the top of the pole, it will be easy to manage the wires and prevent kid's or people from disconnecting your lights.  We also have some LIGHTED STARS that would work well at the top of the pole for decoration.

Good luck and Merry Christmas.  Send me some pictures of the finished tree.
