I've got a system very similar to this one:Mercury Vapor Well Light 100 Watt with Guard - WLBR40-15/BR-1222The light doesn't work. How can I tell if I need a new bulb, or if there's a problem with the ballast? With your answer, I'll know what to order from your site. Thanks for your help--Lee

You would need a voltage meter to properly test the ballast and capacitor.  Most likely it is the lamp or the socket that has failed.  You can't go wrong ordering just a lamp.  Do you have another fixture that you could swap the lamp as a means of testing the ballast?  Hope that helps!
