I am installing two sets of 20 W halogen undercabinet lights over a window and a sliding glass door wooden valance (3 to a string over each). I would like to run them to a dimmer switch on the wall.I need to know if this can be done, or if I need a special type of dimmer switch? I asked a person at a local home improvement store, and he brought me to some switches that were almost $60.00! I asked him if I could run multiple (both sets of lights) runs to one switch, or if I needed to use two separate switches. Can you help me find an inexpensive answer to this question?Thank you for your time,RobBedford Heights, Ohio

Yes you can run multiple fixtures from one dimmer as long as you don't exceed 300 watts total. Most halogen undercabinet lights are powered by an electronic transformer and require a special dimmer to operate them. Here is a link to one of the many we offer:

Unfortunately there is no cheap solution to your problem. If you don't use the right type of dimmer for the load it can be a fire hazard. It's worth the investment!
