I have two areas of my backyard that need to be lighted. The first area is directly next to the house. It is a 16'x16' patio area used for BBQ'ing. The second area is about 30' from the house and consists of a large Pool area extending out to a total distance of about 130'and about 50' wide. Currently the pool area has some low voltage path lighting but it is more decorative than functional. I have run power to a box on the exterior of the house immediately above the patio area and was hoping to use a dual fixture box. My thought was to use an incandescent spot for the first fixture. I am considering either a Metal Halide or Mercury Vapor fixture for the pool area. I am looking for low operational costs and 'moonlight'/blue lighting effects. (I don't want to annoy the neighbors... too much). What do you suggest. Also, I don't know if it matters, but the fixtures will be controlled via x10 home signaling. Thanks

I would need more information about the trees and shrubs to properly assist you with landscape lighting needs.  If you are mounting fixtures on the house for aesthetic lighting you want to be sure that they are well shielded and operate with a dimmer control.  That way you can control the intensity depending on the mood.  We have several small directional bullet fixtures that have ice blue lenses and halogen lamps that may work.  For the pool area, I would would go with the mercury vapor instead on the metal halide, primarily for the color and intensity.  We have mercury vapor landscape lighting fixtures in 50, 100, 175, and 250 watt models. Give me a call at 800-239-2939 if you need help selecting fixtures.
