Cove lighting in a basement

We are currently finishing our basement and we love the look of cove lighting. Our ceilings will be just under 8 feet and several people have told us that our ceiling it too low for cove lighting. I just read somewhere that cove lighting will actually make the ceiling seem higher. What are the standard guidelines for cove lighting?

For cove lighting to be effective it must be above eye level and shielded from normal viewing angles.  The light source should be continous and smooth, without hot spots created by the individual lamps.  That means you need at least three inches of clear space on both the horizontal and vertical planes to acheive this result.  We offer a frosted rope light that is cost effective, easy to install and looks great.  It can also be dimmed for mood lighting!
