Solar LED Street Lighting
Solar LED street lighting poles are completely self-contained outdoor security lighting sources that need no unsightly solar sails or fins and do not require cumbersome external batteries to power the lamps. Instead, the batteries are contained in the sturdy concrete bases of the poles themselves, hidden from view. Solar power is collected through a photovoltaic film that wraps around the light pole and gathers light from the environment (regardless of whether or not the sun is visible or hidden behind clouds). The light pole contains a photocell that knows when twilight comes and gradually turns on the LED lamp a little at a time, increasing its power as ambient lighting around the pole fades and bringing it to 100% intensity when total darkness finally falls. If ambient light levels from surrounding sources are high enough, the lamp will not need to output 100% of its light, and the system automatically adjusts to produce the required vertical and horizontal foot candle density for the surrounding area while simultaneously saving battery life by auto-adjusting itself to its specific surroundings.
If something happens to the battery in a solar led street light, or if the power levels significantly fall below acceptable operating levels, a signal is send via the Internet to maintenance personnel on duty. This gives immediate notice to dispatchers so they can then send repair crews on site to correct the problem. LED solar street lights are thus far more reliable and safer than traditional street lights that can fail without anyone knowing it and create dangerous areas of darkness along the road that present a safety hazard to pedestrians and motorists. Maintenance like this is rare, however, because LED lights use only 20% of the battery power that HID and other light sources require, so these street lights almost never lose their charge and can be relied upon for steady performance for many years.
LED solar powered street lights offer a number of other benefits to cities as well. Because LED lamps conserve so much battery power, these commercial street lighting poles more often than not have an excess charge remaining within them on the dawn of the following morning. Municipal entities can actually sell this energy back to the power company, or trade excess electricity for energy credits on other lighting and power costs associated with municipal government and operations. LED solar street lights located near schools, public parks, national guard facilities, and government buildings can also be used as a form of security lighting, as the photocell sensor in each light also contains an optional motion detector that, when activated, will bring the light to full power for 5 minutes if an possible intruder is detected.
Also, at no additional cost to you, RLLD will provide your municipal clients with a free photometric assessment of lighting parking lots, area lighting and lighting requirements so you can show them on paper the power and reliability of this revolutionary new form of roadway lighting. We will also provide detailed information on customizing the power saving features of these lights, such as motion controlled dimming, full power on for emergency lighting, and manually triggered blackout for police and security investigations.
