I'd like to use this product for under cabinet kitchen lighting. I have j boxes in the wall and would like to use line voltage instead of fishing another low voltage wire through the wall. I have heard that there is a problem if these lights are used at less than 50% of rated load, that their life is shortened due to overpowering. Is this true? Is the product dimmable? What type of clamps or attachment devices are available? Thanks
ROPE LIGHT works well if dimmed. You can mount the lights with our ROPE LIGHT TRACK or ROPE LIGHT CLIPS. You can dim the product with a standard dimmer control.
Did you see our UNDER CABINET LIGHTS? These lights will be more attractive and functional than the rope light for task lighting.

Are there any significant differences between low voltage & 110 volt halogen lighting? By low voltage, I mean the halogen lights that use a transformer to step down the 110 volt house current to a lower voltage, anywhere from 10 to 50 volts. Is the lower voltage primarily for safety, as in an outdoor location, or an indoor location that is wet? Alternatively, does lower voltage increase bulb life? Or possibly, is lower voltage employed to make it possible to use smaller light fixtures? If there is a longer expected bulb life with lower voltage, the additional cost of the transformer must be balanced against the savings of extended bulb life. Do you know of any published studies on the balance of cost and savings? I intend to install lights under the cabinets, in a kitchen. What do you recommend?
Low voltage lighting is a great way to have bright light and save energy. LOW VOLTAGE UNDER CABINET LIGHTS are low profile, and will give you years of enjoyment. Anytime you lower the wattage, you save on energy. This is true by just using a DIMMER CONTROL SWITCH. Dimming a light by 10% actually doubles the lamp life of a standard incandescent lamps. See our DIMMER FAQ'S for more information.
Just give us a call at 800-239-2939 and we can help you pick out a low voltage lighting system for your home.

I am planning to add landscape lighting this spring. I would like to up light 3 trees ranging from a 20 Ft color beach to an 8 Ft cherry tree. I also want to up light the corners of my house. I am not certain what wattage I should use? I don't want it too bright or too dim, I was thinking of purchasing a Malibu lighting system consisting of 4 50 watt spot lights? Is this too high a wattage? Suggestions?
You really don't need more than 20 or 35 watts per fixture for landscape lighting. Unless, you live near a street light or a parking lot with lot's of ambient lighting. Have you looked at out PRE PACKAGED OUTDOOR LIGHTING KITS? Everything you need comes in the box.
Thanks for the question and considering our products. Call us at 800-239-2939 if you are looking for a lighting kit that is not commercial grade or a little less money.

My lights tend to go off after being on for awhile. This is an intermittent problem. In the past I replaced one of the "transformers". I don't understand why the lights do this. They are not necessarily hot and they are only 7 years old and this has been going on for a long time. Anyway please tell me how to go about getting the replacement parts.
You either need REPLACEMENT SOCKETS or a REPLACEMENT ELECTRONIC TRANSFORMER. Check your existing socket carefully before ordering ours please! They all mount differently!

It is my understanding that you will no longer be able to manufacture MV ballasts after Jan. 1, 2008. Are you aware of any tax incentives available to customers with a large installed base of this lamp source? Or do they simply have to replace them all within a certain time frame because spare parts will no longer be available? Thanks in advance for your answer.
You can use a METAL HALIDE BALLAST on a mercury vapor lamp. Although the mercury vapor ballasts are being phased out, you can still get REPLACEMENT MERCURY VAPOR LAMPS.
Thanks for the great question. I am not aware of any tax incentives. Let us know if you need any spare parts or lighting fixtures.

We were referred to you by your customer service (phone) person. We are planning to use this product to provide overhead lighting on our patio (approximately total length = 53.5 feet). The design plan is a triangle that runs from the corner of the house (stucco over concrete block), to a palm tree, to a cleat mounted on aluminum frame of screen room, and back to the start (stucco over concrete block). Our question: Do you have suggestion(s) as to the best way to secure the start/end of the light string to the house. We were thinking a (boat) cleat, but thought you might offer a better option than wrapping the wire ends around a cleat. Also, with a custom length, is it possible to have a run of wire (from the plug to 1st light and from last light to wire end) without lights? Thank you.
Take a look at the porcelain aerial mounts in the electrical section at your local Home Depot or Lowes. They come in various sizes and mounting methods. These will give you a solid mount and a insulated mount as to isolate the aluminum structure from being entergized.
Since the sockets are molded you may have to splice the wire to accomplish your goals.

Hi-I am interested in hanging 10 lanterns in an olive tree and would like to light them. What is the best solution to light the lanterns and have them spaced far enough apart throughout the tree. I would also like the wire to be green so it blends in the tree. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you
Have you checked out out LOW VOLTAGE HANGING LIGHTS for the Olive tree? These low voltage lights have small perforations in the fixture to create a "Firefly" effect You will need a low voltage TRANSFORMER to power the lights. The wire is black in color and tends to blend with the tree.

I have sloped ceiling which is part of the roof. Would like to retrofit recessed lighting into our den area. Need safe recessed housing to place in this area. What do you recommend?
It would be best to go with an IC rated sloped down light housing. Since you have no attic space, I am sure that the void is full on insulation. If you buy ones that is not IC rated, the lights will blink on and off. Please contact customer service for housing options at 800-239-2939.

I am planning on putting this light in a standard junction box. There are several wires going through this box that I can tap into. Will I need to put a transformer somewhere in the circuit? What kind? I noticed that two of the lamp options are 120V. Does this mean I can use these and tap into the circuit without a transformer? Also, in the lamp description is says the connection is FA-05. I am not sure what this is. Is this something I will need? Thanks!Dave
These FOCUS SL02 LIGHT will mount nicely on a standard junction box. In fact, the back box comes with the light fixture. We also have a cover plate in copper for a more attractive look.
The FA-05 is a low voltage connector that you will not need if you go with a 120 volt lamp. IF you go with a low voltage lamp, you will need a LOW VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER.

Hello, I would like to get the technical data sheet for these 1000-watt lights. I purchased them (along with poles and everything else) a few months ago from you. I am now setting them up and need to know the electrical wiring requirements to put the correct junction box, fuses, etc. Please email me all the technical data sheet and info you have on these lights. Thanks!
Thank you for purchasing one of our TENNIS COURT LIGHTING PACKAGES for your home. It would be best if you contacted a licensed electrician to assist you. Technically, we are not supposed to give you installation instruction for legal reasons. However, I can give you some useful information as you do your calculations.
Each 1000 watt fixtures pulls 4.5 amps if connected to a 220 volt circuit. That doubles to 9.o amps if you plan to use a 120 volt circuit. The ballasts in the fixtures have several taps that can be changed to accommodate your voltage selection.
I would go with the 220 volt system using #10 THHN wire and install 1" PVC conduit with sweep 90's between each pole and back to the panel location per side. That way you will have plenty of room to pull the wires and make the connections inside the poles. If you use several LIGHTING CONTACTORS to manage the circuits, you can have all the lights on one TIMER CONTROL or switch for simplicity.
If you purchased duplex receptacles in you kit for ball machines, those would be hooked up 120 volts and put on dedicated circuits.
Thanks again for shopping with us here at Residential Landscape Lighting & Design. Please tell your tennis friends about our exciting TENNIS COURT LIGHTS. Have them call us toll free at 800-239-2939 if we can be of assistance.

Can a fixture like this or any other chandelier be hung centered over a bathtub?
The National electric code officially says that any light fixture must be installed over 6' high, out of reach and connected to a GFCI receptacle They do not want you to be able to touch the fixture while standing in the tub.

I currently use 75W incandescent regular 120V flood lights to
up light trees. What equivalent low voltage light would I need to achieve the same level of
lumens? Would halogen
LV lights be a better choice? I like the color of the incandescent bulbs and think the halogen might be too white but I am afraid the low voltage spot lights with incandescent bulbs might not give enough light. Can you make a recommendation? Thanks
Do not be fooled by the term low voltage lighting fixtures. LOW VOLTAGE HALOGEN FIXTURES can produce tremendous light levels in a garden setting. 50-watt MR16 lamps are equivalents to 150-watt standard incandescent lamps. The 50MR16/FNV is a wide spread 60 degree spread lamp. Just ask customer service to include those in the kit.

I am interested in using this product in an upcoming bathroom renovation. Planning on mounting directly to exterior wall, however i was wondering if there is a mounting kit available for the screen outside. This is a high end job and i need it to look better than a piece of plastic screwed and caulked to siding. In the past i have cut a piece of either poplar or primed FJP and cut the vent stack hole in it the mounted the bird screen to that . Then you have to install channel around that (if vinyl or aluminum) This method looks decent after being painted but its one more thing to maintain (paint wise) and customers like this are not interested in that. Maybe there is an additional product i can buy to maybe add a nicer look to it? Any advice would be appreciated THANK YOU
The PANASONIC OUTDOOR VENT cover does include a bird screen. Unfortunately, there is not a good looking outside vent cover. If you decide to make your own just be sure you provide enough holes not to restrict the flow of air.

Can you use 2 of your motion detector lights on the same switch? The Cooper lights I bought do not work properly and they instruct not to put 2 lights on the same switch, but I have no choice on my outdoor floodlights. Thanks
I would have to see a diagram on how the lights are wired to answer your question. If you have two lights on one MOTION DETECTOR that is certainly alright as long as they are not HID lights. If you have halogen or incandescent lamps it should work fine.
Otherwise, you would need one motion detector per switch leg to control your outside lights.

I'm interested in Phantom lighting for use in a continuous cove about 29 feet long. I need to know the
lumen's output and lifetime of the various lamp choices. Also, I need to have a description of the various trim and wiring options. (Maybe they're on your website, but I couldn't find them.

I would go with the Xenon lamp for color rendering and lamp life. When used in combination with a magnetic dimmer controls, the Phantom lamps will last for years. If you spacing is 4" on center and you select 5 watt lamps, you will produce 15 watts per foot. Likewise, with 10 watt lamps, you will produce 30 watts per foot. PHANTOM LIGHTING STRIPS are custom built to your exact dimensions so they fit your cove the first time!

My outdoor arena is 150' x 80'. I would like to install only two poles on the 150' side of the arena with two lights each. Would two 400 watt metal halide fixtures on each pole mounted at 17' high be sufficient for horse jumping at night? Any suggestions?
Nope! It would be better if you installed taller poles, say 25' and four 1000 WATT COMMERCIAL MH FIXTURES instead of four 400 WATT MH FIXTURES. However, if you already have the 17' poles, stick with the 400 watt fixtures.
Since you are only using four lights, I feel that you will need higher light levels for jumping safely at night. The higher the poles the less glare you will have in your eyes when jumping or riding.

I have two trees in the front yard that have dual bullet
down lights using 60 watt PAR 20 bulbs - poor color and frequent burnouts. Thinking of going to 50 watt R20 mercury vapor lamps for more natural color and longer bulb life. Can I just swap out a
Techlight fixture and ballast unit, or can I use the existing ballast and fixture? Are R20 bulbs the correct size (new home with new 20 foot trees)? Thanks -
I like the idea of replacing the existing incandescent bullet fixtures with our TECHLIGHT 50WATT MERCURY VAPOR DOWN LIGHTS. Not only will you extend the lamp life to 16,000 hours but, you will love the color of the lights. The extended glare shield allows you to adjust the mercury vapor tree lights towards the house without seeing the light bulb or creating glare. I always use mercury vapor tree lighting to create artificial moonlight illumination. The soft shadows look very nice creeping across the lawn. If you mount the lights over 30' high, go with a 100 WATT MERCURY VAPOR TREE LIGHT KIT or 175 WATT MERCURY VAPOR TREE LIGHTING FIXTURE.
I would recommend that you remote the ballast box for a cleaner look. Hide the BALLAST BOX over in the bushes or out of your normal view up to 100'. You will need some 16/3 LANDSCAPE CABLE to complete the installation.
