How much light does this lamp give? I am concerned about the ''disclaimer'' regarding its inability to give same amount of light as a plug-in lamp. What % less light does it give? Have customers been unhappy with the product in the past?
Battery lights just simply don't give the same quantity of light as those that plug in. We have not had complaints as most people who buy them simply don't have electrical power near the art. You should expect about 50% less light than standard models.

I sell fountains and would like the fountains to turn on when they drive up and off when they drive off...what do I need???
Any simple MOTION DETECTOR used in combination with a LIGHTING CONTACTOR will turn your fountain off and on. The contactor reduces the load on the motion detector on larger fountains. If you are talking about a simple pump, the motion detector is rated for a approximately 10 amps.
Please give us a call here at Residential Landscape Lighting & Design at 800-239-2939 when you are ready to place the order. You will need a JUNCTION BOX for the lighting contactor.

I have built a new deck, 14' x 30', using composite products. One end is enclosed with a privacy fence for a hot tub (14''x18''). The fence is 6' and made of the same material as the deck. I am interested in low voltage lighting and something in a postcap style. However, I am concerned that the light will be shining down in people's eyes. Can you recommend something? I have 7 posts in this area. The other part of the deck uses regular railings. I have one set of 4 steps going down to the yard. Thank You.
I like the HADCO DL4N POST TOP LIGHT for decks and walkways.
If you install a LUTRON MAGNETIC DIMMER CONTROL on the TRANSFORMER you can set the mood and glare will not be an issue. This fixture has a prismatic diffuser to soften the light.

Will the Lutron fluorescent dimmer switch work with dimmable compact fluorescent bulbs? I was told I need a special dimmer. Thanks
Some fluorescent lamps, such as those from GREENLITE have built in ballasts and will dim with standard dimmer controls. The LUTRON FLUORESCENT DIMMER SWITCH that you are looking at one works in tandem with a LUTRON ELECTRONIC DIMMING BALLAST.

I am doing a project in Palm Beach County Florida and will need some 20' metal halide, 250W, 120 volt parking lot light poles. You state that the wind zone for your poles is up to 100 mph. I am concerned that this will not be enough for local conditions. The map on the building dept website shows this area as 140mph. Do you have poles rated this high? Does anyone?
We certainly have COMMERCIAL POLE KITS that will work in your WIND ZONE. EPA is determined by the drag created by the fixture and the pole. I would recommend that you contact Jeremy in customer service at 800-239-2939. He can specify a lighting pole that will meet your requirements in Florida.

I would like to purchase and mount the TL16M, 16" low bay light & wire it for existing 110 outlets. Will I be able to wire this type of light for 110 volts?
I don't see why not. The LOW BAY LIGHT does come with a twist lock cord cap that you can either cut off and hard wire or install a twist lock receptacle to match. I don't know how many you plan to use, so check your load. Divide the wattage by the voltage to get total amps. Typically, 1920 watts is all you can put on a 120 volt 20 amp circuit.

The socket receptacle in my Halo H1499T housing is now free floating. Does this trim "anchor" the bulb so that it in a fixed position? What about a lens?
Yes, the HALO 1419P PIN HOLE TRIM and the HALO 1420P SLOTTED TRIM both have holders and Pyrex lenses to secure the MR16 lamps into the trim.
The free floating socket allows you to remove the trim and access the MR16 lamp for servicing. These are great little RECESSED LIGHTS that I use all the time.

I have a 100 year old live oak. I would like to make this the focus for my office. Is low voltage an option? What is best to use?
LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING produces a very nice warm light source and is very easy to install. Mounting several MR16 up lights around the base of the tree is a great way to illuminate the trunks and canopy of the tree. You might want to upgrade from 20 watt lamps to 35 watt lamps if the tree is really big.
MERCURY VAPOR LIGHTING on the other hand produces a blue green color that is much more dramatic than the low voltage option. This type of lighting is line voltage and would require an electrician to install. These lights can be installed in the shrubs or mounted in the tree if necessary.

I understand from archived questions that the 600 Watt transformer has: capability for 300w x 2. Each has Terminal A, B and C. I also understand that Terminal C is the neutral so....Here is my question.I have (1) 600 W transformer and (1) 300 Watt transformer. The 300 watt transformer powers: (4) uplights/50W each with no problem. Distance of home run roughly 76 feet. I added another 50w to the 300 trans. and the lights dimmed somewhat. I use 12/2 cable. My connections on the back of the 300 unit are: one wire under terminal A, one under B, nothing g under CThe same applies to the 600 watt transformer. I think I am not using the transformer correctly, or am I? I purchased the 600 w transformer for 6 additional up lights, total distance is about 350 feet (I have just under an acre) Am I going about this correctly and is there a diagram you might refer me to? Thanks so much....
You might want to run another cable and split up the lights into two home runs back to the transformer. Check out our CALCULATING VOLTAGE DROP PAGE for wiring ideas.
Now for the new installation that is 350 feet, you have a problem. I hope you purchased HEAVY DUTY LANDSCAPE CABLE such as 10/2 or even 8/2 and a HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER!
This kind of installation will take some careful planning otherwise you will be disappointed with the results. I would recommend that you hook up the lights, look at them at night before you bury and wires. That way you can make adjustments as needed.

Is there away that we can make the low voltage lighting brighter in our yard?
There are many ways to make your low voltage lighting system brighter. You first have to understand why the lights are dim. This can be due to several issues. One, is the LANDSCAPE CABLE size could be inadequate or too small to handle total wattage of the lights. Secondly, the distance from the TRANSFORMERS to the lights may be too far causing a voltage drop.
Visit our DESIGNING LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING PAGE or CALCULATING VOLTAGE DROP for more information. These informational pages will help you understand the problem and find a solution.

We saw that on a previous question that you recommended 3 poles with two fixtures each on both sides of a 165 ft. x 270 ft. Riding arena. Our arena is about half that size (180 x 90). Is it possible to get decent coverage for training (not showing) at night with 3 poles on only one side if we go with two fixtures per pole and higher watt lights (e.g.1000-watts)? Would the 30' pole be better in that configuration? We are sitting right on sandstone bedrock at the edges of the arena. Do you have a recommendation for the dimensions of any concrete form used as a base for a 25 or 30' pole? Lastly (whew!!) we are in Norman, Oklahoma. Do you have local folks that you recommend who do installation work? Thanks! (Great Website!)
Please contact Jeremy in customer service at 800-239-2939 for design assistance. It would be much better if you had poles on each side to minimize shadows and provide uniform distribution. Do you have an SL04 in Cast Aluminum. I prefer the 4 louvers on the SL04 to the 2 louvers on the SL08. However, with the SL08 model costing more, I am assuming that Cast Aluminum is more resistant to weather conditions than Stamped Aluminum. Is this correct. I am concerned about the effects of weather conditions on the fixture itself, since I live in a hot, humid, salt air environment(900 yards from the ocean) here in South Carolina. What are your thoughts.
You should go with a COPPER STEP LIGHT or BRASS STEP LIGHT. These lights can withstand the salt air environment and will give you years of enjoyment.
I would not use an aluminum landscape lighting product near the coast. It will deteriorate in no time. Although you may pay more for a copper or brass step light, the investment is worth it!

What are the requirements for the footing/foundation for a Fiberglass pole? My specifications calls for a 20' pole. Does a Fiberglass pole require a foundation or can it be placed directly in the ground? Please advise.Thank you
The FIBERGLASS POLES are designed for direct burial and do not require a formal footing. Having said that you could certainly set these in concrete if you wanted.

I have this (and other nutone fans) fan in a new house built for us. Not sure where our builder bought fan , maybe home depot, but builder has left us and the MBR fan sounds like a truck and will probably stop working soon. What recourse do i have from nutone? Can someone come out and inspect or replace this fan?
The NUTONE FAN in your bathroom has a 4.0 sone rating which means it should not sound like a truck. PANASONIC VENT FANS are much more quiet if you are considering a change. I like the PANASONIC FANS.

I am building a game room and bar in my basement where there are no windows however, I will be putting a picture window in the framed wall a few inches from the concrete wall. I have a friend of mine who will either make a daytime Boston scene or nighttime scene to show outside. The window will also have a neon bar sign of some sort in the window to give the appearance of a Pool Hall or Bar. I would like to either have some soft daylight hidden above the window showing my daytime scene or lighting appropriate for a nighttime scene. My first thought would be a fluorescent tube for the daylight and maybe a neon orange stick for night? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

At present my outdoor lights go on by way of timer 5pm through 11pm. I also am able to turn the lights on with the wall switch at any time. Can I use this motion detector in addition to what I now have so that if motion is detected after my timer powers off the lights will go on. Thanks
Sounds like you have some kind of override switch on your security lighting. Once you kill the power to the MOTION DETECTOR normally it will not operate. Now if you remove the timer and use just the motion light it will do what you want. The RAB GOODNIGHT MOTION DETECTOR dims the lights down to 20% until it detects motion and then raises the lights to 100% for security. This is a very nice feature that not only saves energy, but extends lamp life.

Hello! Can this dimmer be spliced into a cord carrying 12 volts, to a lamp with three, 60-watt halogen lamps? Since the load is only 5 amps, it would seem that a 120 volt switch like this one would work fine. Thanks in advance for your reply.
NO. The LUTRON LAMP CORD DIMMER is designed for 120 volt operation only.
The only way to dim these low voltage lights is on the primary side of the transformer or 120 volt side with an ELECTRONIC DIMMER CONTROL or MAGNETIC DIMMER SWITCH.

Your lights sound like a perfect solution for my under cabinet lighting. Can I get a spec sheet or directions on installing these lights before I order?, I want to know what I''m getting into and if I need to prepare. My situation is that I want to get a 2 light set and a 4 light set. The 4 light set will be under cabinets, 1 of the lights is on one side of a window, 2 are just on the other side of the window and then the 4th. Is on the other side of my stove. I need advice on how to run the wiring and how much space is needed for that wiring.
How you run the wires for your puck lights depends on the way your cabinets are built. The instructions do not cover anything other than the light fixture wiring. However, these puck lights are easy to install and the wire can be stapled behind trims for a finished look.

I am trying to light a piece of artwork that consists of a series of clear lexan boxes which contain mounted butterflies. There are 14 boxes arranged edge to edge so that the butterflies appear to be flying in a swarm. The problem arises with reflection of of the boxes. I need to illuminate the artwork from a severe angle from approx. 10''. I require the beam to be as focused as possible. I have tried MR16 low voltage bulbs in a variety of fixtures. Someone suggested an elongation lens for the MR16 as a solution. What does work is to extend the fixture so that the bulb is recessed approx 4" from the edge. Any thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated.
The beam elongation and other MR16 LENSES are great at changing the shape and quality of the light on the wall. I can't help you with the reflection issues. I would buy one of each of the MR16 lenses and give them a try. Start with the beam elongation and soft focus lenses first. You might also buy a hex cell louver to prevent glare from the light source.

I have 150' of low voltage lighting with (16) 5-watt fixtures attached. There is a 120 watt power pack, which should be more than adequate to power them. However, lights that are nearest to power pack are bright, while the farther you get away from power pack, the dimmer the lights get. WHY?
The variation in light output is due to VOLTAGE DROP ISSUES. Split the lights into two separate wires going back to the transformer and you should be fine. Check out the above link for information on low voltage wiring methods.
