I have an unfortunate situation where I need to tap into (2) existing flush mounted brass junction boxes 6"x6". My question is "Does anyone manufacture a brass cover with brass cord connectors for a flush type box of this size that is UL Listed. These particular boxes now installed were manufactured by a company called "The fountain people" but they do not make a cover that is UL Listed with brass cord connectors . Is this possible?

I have an outdoor security light that is running a 150 watt dawn to dusk mercury vapor bulb. The buzzing noise the lamp makes seems excessive. When the lamp is on and the bulb is unscrewed the buzzing is much less. Can a different type of bulb (i.e. florescent) make less noise, or is my only alternative to switch out the entire fixture. Thanks
Unfortunately, not all security lights are created equal. Mercury vapor lights are notorious for making buzzing sounds. You best bet is to bite the bullet and purchase a new OUTDOOR SECURITY LIGHT. It will less expensive and much easier in the long run.

Toro outdoor landscape lighting and my power supply went out. Would it be possible to
replace your power supply with the set I have. Nothing is wrong with the lights, it''s just the
power supply has gone out.

I have a 5 acre lot. I want to run 200 feet from the house to two trees and up light them. Do I use 24 volt? What lights do I use? I am lighting full River birch trees. Should I use 12/2 or 10/2? List the item numbers for products from your catalog.
THNX I would use one of our LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING KITS to illuminate your River Birch trees. Install three lights per tree and three lights per home run wire back to the transformer. So, you will have two circuits of lights which will eliminate any voltage drop problems. Specify 35-watt flood lamps in the comment box instead of the 20-watt lamps that come with the kit. It's an even swap and you will be more satisfied with the results.
The 12/2 DIRECT BURIAL CABLE is fine for the loads described above. If you were running all six fixtures on one cable, it would be best to use 10/2 DIRECT BURIAL WIRE. If you plan to run more lights in the future you might want to consider installing a STAINLESS STEEL MULTI-TAP TRANSFORMER to boost the voltage. We can substitute one in the kit with a slight price adjustment.

I just purchased a home with installed Red Dot motion sensor exterior lighting (probably some years old). After turning off power to perform some electrical work in the house and turning power back on, the Red Dot lighting stays on rather than on-off according to motion sensing. There is an on-off switch for the exterior lighting and I am told there is a method for using the switch to reactivate the motion sensing. Can you tell me the secret to that method? Thank you for your help.
I am not exactly sure how to reset your Red Dot motion sensor. However, I do know that other brands can be set in maintenance mode or manual operation by turning the switch on and off several times in a few seconds. Some brands are two times and others are three. You might try giving this a try.

We want to install low voltage lighting every 25' on each side of a 500' marina dock. Is this feasible?
It is possible to install low voltage lighting on a project that big. However, you will need several LOW VOLTAGE TRANSFORMERS to maintain your light levels and voltage over that kind of distance.
I would suggest using a transformer with a FIBERGLASS HOUSING and high out taps for your application. Since you did not specify what wattage you have in mind it is difficult for me to help your engineer a formal design.
Depending on the design of your dock, you have several options. One is the use of BRASS BUTTON LIGHTS mounted to the pilings which cast a soft, glare free pattern of light. How much area they cover depends on the mounting height.
Another idea would entail the use of COPPER DECORATIVE POST TOP LIGHT FIXTURES. These handsome copper lights have a rich look and provide a very pleasant light pattern.

I am trying to replace a couple of
abolite sign lights on a property I own. I learned that the company has been purchased by
LSI. I don't have a part number to give you, but I can describe them. They extend out from the wall about three feet on a curved mount with an angled fixture that shines on the front of the building.

i have 4 200W 30V lights mounted on a pole. 1) should i wire these in parallel or series? 2) i will be using a generator with 6000 watt ac output. 50 amps @ 120V and 50 amps @ 240V. 3) do i need a dimmer switch to regulate the power or do i need a resistor? 4) what would be different with 2 350 watt 75volt bulbs wired the same way?
Sounds like you are working on a fishing light. My dad made on of those years ago with four locomotive headlamps and a wooden box. If you wire your four 30 volt lamps in series the combined total operating voltage is 120 volt. So if one light bulb burns out, the series of lights will go out as well.

I have a 600W Hampton Bay low voltage transformer with 300W per channel. On one channel I have nearly 300W of lights on a long 12 gauge wire and have had no problems nor have I had to change any bulbs in almost two years. On the other channel, though, I have a short length of only 30-40 yards with only 6-8 fixtures totalling 100-120W. On that side, my bulbs burn out to the tune of 4-5 per month. Also, the lights will go off but when I unscrew the fixture to replace them they go on again but finally go dead in a week or two. I have replaced the line and all fixtures once but still have the same problem. Any suggestions?
I would start by balancing the load on both circuits of your transformer. You can do this by adding additional wire and removing some of the lights from the one with 300 watts to the other side. This should solve your problem..

I just installed a small fountain in my back yard. It looks great during the day, but it disappears at night. I have an existing low voltage lighting system that I can get some 12 volt power. Can you suggest a good underwater light fixture please?
If you have a small fountain with a waterfall and the water is at least 6" deep, I would go with an adjustable low voltage light.

I have a residential sport court that currently has several 1500 watt 240 volt halogen floodlights that have failed. I think the sockets have burned up after many years. The fixtures are mounted to a hub using a 1/2" threaded attachment. Do you have anything like this that would be a replacement or maybe the socket?

1500 WATT HALOGEN FIXTURE that fits your description and requirments for your sport court. I would not recommend changing the socket, as the whole fixture will be easier to replace and better over the long run.

I'm have a new deck built. It's about 900 sq. ft. and on 2 levels. I'd like to light the steps enough to get up and down, I will put a hanging light in a 10 x 12 pergola in one corner, but I don't really want a whole lot more light elsewhere.
I'm trying to decide between lights (like sl-04) in the risers of the steps or post mounted lights (Like DCL1). The steps are either 4 ft or 6 ft wide. Which would be your recommendation. If I do the former, do I need more than one light per riser. If I do the latter, would I be advised to spread a few more around the deck. What recommendations would you have for soft lighting for this. Thanks.
I prefer the FOCUS SL07 STEP LIGHT mounted on the column as your best solution.
When you mount TRADITIONAL STEP LIGHTS like the SL04 on the step risers it tends to make hot spots of light which are sometimes objectionable. If you have posts that are adjacent to the steps, by mounting them higher up you get a much more generous beam spread and a softer look.
I would consider installing several lights around the deck creating an overall perimeter of light for accent and safety. If you put these lights on a DIMMER CONTROL, separate from the other lights, you can create a very pleasant nighttime environment.
Which fixture you actually select, depends on the construction of the deck. Hope this helps!

I was looking at your Christmas Globe Light Strings (LSI15) and noticed that the maximum wattage for 330ft is 1400W. For a 15" spacing, (assuming a bulb every 15") and your recommended 10 Watt bulb, that adds up to over 2600 Watts. I''m obviously missing something. Help. Thank you
Thank you for the question. You are right about using the 10 watt lamps will exceed the capacity of the American Lighting - Globe Light Strings LSI15 at full capacity. That is our mistake and we will add to the copy to prevent that from happening in the future.
When you are installing globe lights on extended or long runs, we recommend using the 7.5 WATT GLOBE LAMPS to reduce the load. The other option is to select another GLOBE LIGHT STRING that will meet your requirements.

Is the Focus SL-37 rated for installation in interior floor joist?
The FOCUS SL-37 is not specifically UL or ETL Listed for interior use. However, since the fixture is only 50-watts maximum and operates at 12- volts, I do not see why you could not use this low voltage indoors. It will require a remote MAGNETIC TRANSFORMER and a MAGNETIC DIMMER CONTROL.
This fixture is typically used in decks for up lighting and wooden beams as a recessed lighting source. You will have to use a hole saw for proper installation since the fixture dows not have any mounting arms or brackets.

My wife gave me a flagpole for Christmas as a gift that I just got installed by the flag company she bought it from. It just dawned on me that I need a light, otherwise I will have to take it down every night. My flagpole is 25' high and I am flying a 3' x 5' American flag. I need to light a large piece of stained glass that is hung in a very large window from the outside. Are there spots that can be wall-mounted from above of the window that can be focussed on the glass? Or would any commercial type of light that protrudes from a wall do the trick? Thanks.
It is always best to light a stained glass window from a distance. In doing so, you will gain more uniformity of light across the window. Keep in mind that different colors transmit light differently, so this won't be easy.
I would install one or more METAL HALIDE COMMERCIAL SPOT LIGHTS mounted back from the glass window roughly one half the total height. So if the window is 16' you should mount the lights approximately 8-10' back. I would contact Jeremy in customer service at 800-239-2939 for more specific information. I want to install two puck lights under existing kitchen cabinets. I want plug them into an existing outlet either chained together or to seperate outlets. I would also like to if possible put them on some kind of dimmer switch but the outlets are not controlled by a switch. Any ideas?

We recently moved into a new home and I am not fond of the electric lanterns on the front porch. My husband was in the process of replacing them when he discovered that the builder had stubbed out gas in the wall that was hidden by the fixture canopy. Needless to say, we were very happy now that we have the gas option. What gas lantern would you suggest for a traditional home?
It is common practice for builders to provide both gas and electric stub outs when constructing a large home. I like the

I was over at a friends house the other night and noticed his new landscape lighting on the trees. Can I use your motion switch with low voltage lighting?
Yes, you can use a motion device to control low voltage outdoor lights.
There are two ways to set this up. You either need to control the power going to the transformer (line side) using a MOTION DETECTOR or MOTION SWITCH or on the load side using a 12 VOLT MOTION DETECTOR between the transformer and the lights.

Unfortunately, there are no aftermarket weatherproof extension cord covers that I can find. There are locking plastic covers available at Home Depot to prevent extension cords from pulling apart, but they are not weatherproof. These snap on covers light make your plastic wrap technique a little easier next year.

Two yrs ago a landscape person put in outdoor lighting. He had to run the wire, in through the wall. The Transformer is a Malibu Low Wattage, 12V 300 Max. Watt. Last night we smelled an acid burning smell. The wiring had split apart, leaving frayed ends, and the carpet beneath the box as plastic like burned down. What Can we do to safely have our lighting considering it's a little scary to replace the same box. What if we had been out of town? Please give advice?
First, I would add up the total wattage of your system to see if it exceeds the 300 watt capacity of the Malibu transformer. Then I would check the wire size to make sure that you have several 12/2 wires or at least one 10/2 for that size of load. 300 watts divided by twelve volts is 25 amps! 12/2 wire is only good for 20 amps! 10/2 is good for 30 amps! Once you have properly calculated and corrected the wiring, you are ready to hook it up again. Did the circuit breaker on the transformer trip? What kind of light I should put on my child's bedroom so that they can use for
multi function, reading, playing, homework...?Is it recess light? Recessed light is more contemporary. Do you have any other suggestion besides it?
For a kid's room, I would go with a quality FLUSH MOUNT CEILING LIGHT with a DIMMER CONTROL for mood setting. That way you can have it bright or dim depending on the situation. I would also recommend a DESK LAMP for reading and a TABLE LAMP by the bed.

"UL Wet" designation means that a fixture is UL listed as "Suitable for Wet Locations." A "UL Wet" fixture is required whenever there is the possibility that water, such as rain, may fall directly onto, or enter into, the fixture. For example, this would be the case in any outdoor installation where the fixture is not adequately covered by a solid overhang or roof. If the fixture is for an indoor location or an outdoor location that is fully protected from water, then any "UL Damp" fixture (UL Listed as "Suitable for Damp Locations") is fine.
