Troubleshooting an Intermatic and/or Tork mechanical time clock.

I've installed a timer in-line between an 110V outdoor receptacle and my swimming pool pump receptacle to timer...Black to "L" white to "1" green to ground Pump to timer...black to "X" white to "2" green to ground I have confirmed successful electrical service to the pump but the timer is not working. Is is possible that I have the timer wired incorrectly?

Check to see that the white neutral wire has been connected to the timer motor and that you can see the gears turning through the small inspection hole, If the gears aren't moving, the clocks not working.
