Outdoor security light, buzzing mercury vapor light fixtures, dusk to dawn security lighting & outdoor security lighting.

I have an outdoor security light that is running a 150 watt dawn to dusk mercury vapor bulb. The buzzing noise the lamp makes seems excessive. When the lamp is on and the bulb is unscrewed the buzzing is much less. Can a different type of bulb (i.e. florescent) make less noise, or is my only alternative to switch out the entire fixture. Thanks

Unfortunately, not all security lights are created equal. Mercury vapor lights are notorious for making buzzing sounds. You best bet is to bite the bullet and purchase a new OUTDOOR SECURITY LIGHT. It will less expensive and much easier in the long run.
