I am trying to incorporate sconces into my headboard design. living in an apartment i am not allowed to hardwire them. i also would like to install a dimmer switch for each of the two. i would then need to wire them to an outlet plug. i would just like to know if this can be done and the right way to do it.
Your best bet is to purchase some SWING ARM LAMPS that have built in dimmer controls. Since you are renting, make it simple!

I have a customer who wants a dimmable 4-bulb flourescent fixture installed inside of a stained-glass enclosure in her kitchen (mounted to the ceiling). I need a package that includes the fixture (4-bulb T8 or T12 40 watt (or close), 120V dimmer switch, and dimmable ballasts. I see the ballasts on your web site, as well as the controller. I don''t see the type of fixture to purchase, and would really like it all as a package if you sell it that way. Any ideas?(I''m an electrical contractor).
Sure, we have a LUTRON dimming fluorescent ballast solution for you. Unfortunately, we do not have every ballast and lamp option posted at this time. Please give Gabriella at call at 800-239-2939 during normal business hours and she will be glad to quote your project.

Can you tell me the difference between C7 & C9 sockets. I am looking to purchase a large quantity of sockets And bulbs but I am looking for the ones that have a larger base than the candleabra base I believe it is the C9 but I am not sure. Do you carry the round red globes to fit the C9 bases.
C7 LAMPS are considered candelabra based lamps. C9 LAMPS have intermediate bases, which are the larger of the two lamps.
We have 7.5 watt RED GLOBE LIGHTS with a candelabra base.
WE have 10-watt RED GLOBE LIGHTS with intermediate bases as well.

My circuit breaker that feeds my Low Voltage lights on the outside trips all the time. I can reset it and it is OK for a few days but then it trips. My transformer is pluged into a GFCI outlet. This never has tripped, but the breaker feeding it does. How does the breaker trip without tripping the GFCI.
Here''s the deal! You have too many lights on the circuit or a short in the low voltage wiring that is causing your problem with the breaker. If the transformer fails, the GFCI will most certainly trip.
Do you have access to an amprobe to check the readings? If not, take the total wattage of the lamps and divide by 12 volts. That will give you the total amperage and compare that against the breaker size. 12/2 wire is good for 20 amps. 10/2 wire is good for 30 amps. We have a great selection of TRANSFORMERS should you be interested in upgrading.
Good luck and happy holidays to you and your family.

I have a pre-lit tree with 1500 2.5v clear mini lights. How can I install a dimmer? I tried 300w Lutron lamp dimmer and it overheated and tripped off.
You will have to make a custom dimmer box for that kind of load. Start with a two gang plastic electrical switch box and install a 1000 WATT LUTRON ARIADNI DIMMER CONTROL in conjunction with a standard duplex receptacle. You will also need a 14/3 grounded extension cord to plug into the wall. That should do it.
The other option is to install the dimmer in the wall adjacent to the existing receptacle, provided you put the tree in the same spot every year.
Merry Christmas!

Can you help me with a problem? One of my one year old wallpack security lights is working intermittently at night. On and off all night long. It is driving me crazy. What do I need to do? Thanks
There are a couple of reasons that your WALLPACK is cycling. The first thing I would check is the photocell control. Sometimes reflected light from the exterior flood or other lights in the vacinity may cause the device to sense light and turn off. If that is not the problem, replace the lamp.
The majority of lights that blink on and off are simply bad lamps. Sometimes it''s the ballast or ignitor. If you have more than one wallpack, swap the light bulbs and see if the problem still exists. This not only checks the light bulb, but also the ballst at the same time.
Hope this information is sufficient for you to solve your problem. Please let us know if you need a new WALL PACK, REPLACEMENT LAMP or REPLACEMENT BALLAST. We have all three in stock!

I am interested in low-voltage landscape up- lighting in the 35W to 50W range to be installed in my front beds and shine up on the house. It looks like you have several good choices, but I would like something that allows me to change colors for the holidays (Red/Green). I did not see this option in low-voltage lighting. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.
Sounds like one of our PRE-PACKAGED MR16 OUTDOOR LIGHTING KITS is just what you are looking for. We have MR16 COLORED LENSES that would be prefect for special occasions. The kits come with 20-watt lamps, so just ask them to give you a free upgrade to 35 watt flood lamps.
If you order soon, you can have the lights just in time for the holidays. Thanks for your interest in Residential Landscape Lighting & Design.

We use rope lighting in our commercial store for the windows. The previous track turned brown-burned in color.I noticed that you have tracks and I was wondering if that is safe in a commercial application. The lights are on 24/7.or...should I consider another lighting source? Thanks!
All plastic mounting tracks eventually brown and crack from continuous exposure to heat and UV rays. Having siad that, I don''t see any problems using the rope lights 24/7. I would just change the MOUNTING TRACKS and maybe consider the new LED ROPE LIGHTS because they are very long lasting and produce very little heat. We also have CHASING ROPE LIGHT if you want something a little more flashy! Please note the size of your light rope (1/2" or 3/8") before ordering as we have both sizes in stock.
Thank you for the question and we look forward to serving you in the future. Happy Holidays to you and your family.

I'm looking to use about 8 feet of clear rope light which would be integrated with a magnetic door sensor. When the door is opened, the lights would come on. How can I accomplish this? Do you have jamb switches? Specifically, how is the magnetic sensor wired to the rope light?
That's easy. You need a 12 VOLT TRANSFORMER, an EDWARDS DOOR JAMB SWITCH and a 8'' section of 12 V ROPE LIGHT.
You will need to run 120-volt power to the transformer on the primary side and then install the switch on the secondary side of the transformer going to the light. The switch simply breaks the power going to the light. It's that simple.
Sounds like a fun project. Good luck!

I need to light a 130' x 65' indoor horse arena. The lights will mount from the ceiling at about 20' height. I would prefer to minimize shadows as much as possible. The room has a sand floor and dust is not really a factor. The circuit I have is 220 volts.
I would suggest installing (12) 350-WATT METAL HALIDE HIGH BAY FIXTURES in two rows equally spaced down the arena. Metal halide produces a very nice white light and shadows should not be an issue if you go with these commercial grade lighting fixtures. Please give Aaron a call should you need further assistance with fixture selection or ordering information.

How can I hang Christmas lights from a roof gutter that is covered with a gutter screen? My husband wants to keep the screen in the gutter to keep the leaves out, and the light hanging clips I bought work only on screenless gutters. Thanks
Well... I would pick up some small S-hooks at a local hardware store and hang the lights off the screen itself. You can also use small electical tie-wraps in the same fashion to support the lights. You can find the tie-wraps in the electrical section of a Home Depot or Lowes. They come in many colors and sizes.

Have a landscape lighting project comming up that would require running 4 or 5 runs of landscape wire though a basement wall and over to the multiple tap transformer, can the wires come through to the inside in conduit and then run bare like romex to the transformer. Thanks
I am not sure it will officially pass code, but it should be alright. As long as you do not exceed the capacity of your DIRECT BURIAL CABLE I don''t see any reason why not. Keep in mind that OUTDOOR LIGHTING TRANSFORMERS are not rated for indoor use. However, they will work fine as long as you provide plenty or air circulation around the transformer for cooling and use a GFCI protected outlet.
I hope that you will visit our OUTDOOR LOW VOLTAGE LIGHTING STORE when ordering your lighting fixtures, wire and transformer.
Thank you!

I recently removed a wall-mounted light fixture. However, there is now a hot black wire and a white wire that is simply dead ended in the electric box. What do I do with these wires? I covered them with electrical tape and left them back in the box. Is this safe? I turned the circuit breaker back on, because there is an important radon fan on the same circuit breaker.
I am assuming that this wire is in a metal or plastic junction box. If so, just install a blank cover and you will be fine. If not, disconnect the switch feeding the abandoned wire and that will eliminate any cause for concern. It is always a good idea to use electrical tape or wire nuts to terminate the wire.
If you decide to ever install a new OUTDOOR WALL LANTERN, we have a great selection.

Last year I bought some green mini lights I need to match. problem is, the bulbs are larger than most commercial light sets. How long are your bulbs? I need to match them.
You would not only have to match the length, but also the wattage and operating voltage of each lamp. This varies by manufacturer. All SEASONAL CHRISTMAS LIGHTS are wired in series and so having that informatuion is critical. That information can generally be found on the label attatched to the lights near the male plug. Once you have that infotrmation, I should be able to help you.

We have several strands of icicle lights that every third icicle will not light. How can we fix them?
All CHRISTMAS STRING LIGHTS, NET LIGHTS and ICICLE LIGHTS are wired in series. That means that multiple light bulbs are hooked together to operate at 120 volts. So if you have a pattern of lights that is not working, one or more lamps has failed. You can purchase a lamp checker to find the culprit or take a working lamp and one by one replace each one in the string until you find the bad one.
Of course, you can always purchase some new ICICLE LIGHTS and make your life easy.

I have a dozen 12v pathlights, and need to replace the bulbs, sockets in many. Each socket is a boyonet single contact with a 12v 12watt lamp. The socket is swaged to an l bracket which screws into the interior of the fixture. A pigtail goes down through the central pipe about 18 inches or less. I''m wondering if these sockets are still available, or, could I replace the bulbs and sockets with halogen about the same wattage? I can''t find the sockets at auto supplies, dixieline, home depot, or on the web. I''d prefer to repair the fixtures rather than replace them. They are a two tier pagoda style with a central "jar" open on the bottom with a hemispheric top, about 3.25 inches in diameter, and about 5 inches tall The bottom is threaded. the fixtures are aluminum. Help? Thanks
Well, you might have to get creative to replace these sockets. You can do it. We have some Single Contact Sockets with mounting Bracket - SKT T11 that are close to what you have described. You might have to use a end butt connector to extend the positive wire and use the fixture body or run a new wire for the other lead wire.
The Single Contact Socket Base - TEC MPLS is another low voltage socket that might work for you. It is designed to fit in a 1/2" knockout hole. It has two wires that are long enough to fit your stem. You would have to fabricate a bracket or silicone the socket in place.

Good afternoon.I had 4 Halo H5ICAT fixtures installed in my living room during construction. The ceiling and walls are now sealed, but I would like to add 2 more for more light. Does Halo make a fixture comparable to the H5ICAT for existing ceilings as opposed to new construction? Thanks, Anthony
Yes, HALO LIGHTING makes a H5RICAT remodel housing for installations where the housing will be in direct contact with ceiling insulation. Integral thermal protector provides positive protection against over-lamping. The H5RICAT can be installed from below the ceiling. Air-tite housing prevents airflow between attic and living areas. I need a LUTRON 2000 watt Dimmer Switch for some incandescent lights in my office boardroom. Do they make a 2000 watt dimmer switch and what are my options?
OK, you have two options:
For a wallbox solution, Lutron has a Nova NT2000 dimmer control that goes up to 2000 watts. The other option is to use any Lutron wallbox dimmer in conjunction with a Lutron Power Booster. You will need a dedicated 20 amp circuit run to the booster. We have both Lutron devices should you decide to order.
Thanks!

Background:I have a contractor who pre-wired 12/2 direct burial cable for step lights adjacent to my pool deck. The run is approx 150''-200''. The single homerun load consists of 24 7w 12v steplights. I have a 3-tap 900w transformer that has 3 300w output taps. The light string is overloaded and buried in concrete now.Question (1):Can I purchase one of your 600w multi-tap transformers and use the higher voltage output taps to resolve the voltage drop issue?Question: (2):Does your 600w multi-tap transformer have 1 600w output with different voltage taps (or) does it consist of 2 300w outputs with different voltage taps.Question: (3):I am wondering if 15v @ 600w would be the right combination to brighten my "very dim" step lights?
Ouch, you do have a problem. Your contractor should have used conduits for running the wires under concrete for this very reason. Just be glad the wire was not cut during the pour!
Buying a multi-tap transformer will allow you to boost the voltage which will significantly improve your situation. The real problem is that you only have one wire! Can you get to the last fixture and run a new wire back to the transformer? If so, that will allow you to feed from both ends in a continuous loop.
If my math is right, you only have 12 x 7 = 168 watts of light. You don''t need a bigger transformer, you just need something that will produce a higher voltage. Our TECHLIGHT LV300-T is a very good solution.
Send the contractor the bill!

Residential Landscape Lighting & Design (RLLD) is a true masterpiece of the art of "findability." No matter where you begin, if you are searching for lighting fixtures for your home, garden or business, all roads seem to lead here. When typing a search phrase into Google, RLLD consistently appears on the first page of results whether your term is as broad as "landscape lighting," or as specific as "low voltage underwater lights." RLLD's seemingly ubiquitous presence on the web is not due to any trickery, nor is it the result of heavy investments into paid advertising. RLLD's impressive rankings in all major search engines is a direct result of the extensiveness of its product selection, the volume of educational content, and the ease with which all of its information can be found--by humans and search engines alike.
RLLD offers thousands of lighting products which are designed for use in a wide range of applications. If it emits light, RLLD sells it--from table lamps to commercial parking lot poles! The product selection is divided into nine basic categories: Landscape & Outdoor Lighting, Indoor & Residential Lighting, Commercial & Industrial Lighting, Holiday & Seasonal Lighting, Home Automation, Safety and Security Lights, Fans & Heaters, Sport and Tennis Court Lighting and Lighting Parts & Accessories. RLLD's products are divided in this way because, typically speaking, the first question that must be answered about any lighting fixture is where and how it will be used. While the user may select one of these top level categories from the home page, they can generally be found just as easily by entering the terms into Google or other search engine.
Once the customer has made a selection, the user is presented with further subcategories related to the product selection. Indoor & Residential Lighting products, for example, are further divided according to the indoor location or application. Ceiling Lights, Wall Lights, and Floor Lamps are just a few examples of the major categories for indoor lighting. Along with these subcategoires, the user is also presented with several original articles authored by RLLD staff content writers. Articles like "Bathroom Lighting Tips" or "Strip Lighting Information" may assist the customer in choosing the correct product for the application, or simply provide ideas for a lighting design project. The products are always interlinked with the informational pages so that when a decision is made, the ordering process is always close at hand.
Once the customer has arrived at a product listing, narrowing down the selection until the correct item is found could not be easier. A left-hand navigation bar provides the customer with multiple options for sorting through the sometimes extensive results. Users may choose to shop by "Category," "Manufacturer," "Bulb Type," "Material," or "Voltage." Customers may also sort results by price, in ascending or descending order. These options can be selected in any order, meaning there are many roads leading to the right product, and all of them are easy to find.
While the skilled developers and programmers at RLLD have worked hard to make the internal site navigation as intuitive as possible, the reality is that most users never experience this aspect of the site. The reason for this is that most users find exactly what they are looking for as soon as they click on the top result in the search engine. Since RLLD uses real manufacturer SKU numbers in its product listings, a person looking for an angle-cut well light by Focus Industries could simply enter "SL-03-AC" into Google. After selecting the first result, the order process is just one click away.
The single most "findable" piece of information on RLLD's website, however, is its 1-800 number, which is always visible on the upper right-hand portion of the page. During normal business hours a live customer service representative can be reached with a single phone call. RLLD's customer care representatives have earned an impressive reputation for their willingness to go the extra mile for anyone who calls--answering questions and helping customers select the right product for their application. Orders may also be placed over the phone for customers who prefer a verbal confirmation. RLLD's staff works diligently to stay in contact with its customers regarding the status of their orders, and quickly alerts them of any issues that may occur in processing or shipping.
Running a successful online business is certainly no easy task. Through careful thought, years of expertise and a strong commitment to customer service, RLLD has found itself far ahead of the curve in the realm of technology-based business in general, and the online lighting retail industry in particular. No matter what kind of lighting fixture you are searching for, RLLD can light the way. Find what you are looking for! My entire house has exposed beams running through it. The living room is especially hard to keep lit at night, because of all the windows, as well as the light radius being blocked by beams. Right now I am just using torchieres, but it''s a pain to walk around and turn off 5 lights when i''m ready for bed! Any suggestions? Mounting the lights on the beams seems strange.
Well, since you have the torchieres, you might want to consider installing a DIMMER SWITCH to control the lighting circuit. This can be done with standard wall box dimmer or a LUTRON RADIO RA system. Lutron's Radio Ra allows you to automate a lighting system without the need of rewiring the house. Radio RA is a wireless home lighting control system that easily retrofits into any home. You can control the light in any room of your home, your car, bed, or even your swimming pool. Scene buttons on your master control allow you to choose from many useful pre-settings. One touch of the "TV" scene dims the lights and instantly turns your living room into a home theater. Press "Welcome" to turn on the lights in your garage and in your major living areas. The Radio RA remote control lighting system may also be integrated into your home security system. You can configure your Radio RA to turn on all lights in the house, or flash when the system is tripped--quite a deterrent to even the most determined intruder!
We have all the components needed to install a full Radio RA remote control lighting system into your home, including incandescent and low voltage single- or multi-use dimmers, wall-mounted master controls with 5-, 10-, or 15-key pads for scene selection or light monitoring, table top master controls, power boosters for low-voltage and fluorescent units, as well as infrared units for use with remote controls. Full RA Remote Radio Control Lighting system packages are also available, with everything you need to get started.
It's a very cool lighting control system!

I have 100 watt mercury vapor fixture. I want to light up 3 large oak trees. How far should the fixture be from the tree an how many should it have?
That depends on the viewing angle of the trees. If you have a 360 degree viewing angle, you will need two, perhaps three lights per tree. They should be located at ground level halfway between the trunk and the drip line for soft even coverage. If the lights are in a lawn area you may want to go with a GRADE LEVEL MERCURY VAPOR UPLIGHT or if they are in shrubs, you should go with a 100-WATT UPLIGHT BULLET w/HUB MOUNT. Check out our lighting GALLERY for more landscape lighting ideas. Send us a digital image for design assistance and fixture specifications.

I just replaced batteries in my BRK smoke detectors. We have 6 that are all connected and a couple of days after putting in new batteries, they went off. This has happened more than once. A friend of mine said when theirs did that, they had a bad one. How can I tell which one it might be if this is the case?
That is a very good question. I would lower all the SMOKE DETECTORS from the mounting plates and disconnect the red wire which loops them together. That way you can isolate the problem and identify the problem device. If you follow these instructions, the devices will remain in service for the duration of your test. Hope that helps.

My post lantern will not turn off during the daytime. I assume the problem is related to the photoelectric eye. Any ideas on how to correct this problem?
The life span of a photocell control is about 3-5 years. If you see moisture in the glass window of the PHOTOCELL CONTROL, it's time to replace it. They are very easy to install or replace since they only have three wires: Hot (black), Neutral (white), and Switch Leg (red). Turn off the power and be careful.

I own a convenience store that has a public restroom. Of course nobody turns off the darn lights or the vent fan. Consequently, my fan has burned up for the second time. IN-WALL TIMER SWITCHES , I would take a look at the Intermatic models we carry. These spring wound in wall timers come in several models:

Have you ever wondered how the lights turn on and off when you open or close a closet door? It works because of this little magical switching device called a
DOOR JAMB SWITCH.
Jamb switches have been around for years. There is nothing fancy about a jamb switch except that it is one of the most conveneient wall switches in the house. But door jamb switches are not easily installed after the fact, so consider them basically for new construction or remodel projects. They require a junction box to be mortered flush into the wood door jamb that provides a space to splice the wires. This is not always easy to do without cutting sheetrock and drilling the studs. Ask your electrician to find out what is right for your job.
Some
DOOR JAMB SWITCHES do not require a junction box and work on a low voltage current such as 12 or 24 volts. These miniature door switches require a
low voltage power supply and
relay to operate the system. This type of jamb switch is very helpful when you want to switch multiple doors on a cabinet because the wiring method is considerable more simple and easy to install.
