Low voltage outdoor lighting suggestions, ideas and advice.

I want to place 9 Path lights w/20watt bulbs, 4 Flood lights w/35watt bulbs and 3 Up/Accent lights w/20watt bulbs around the right side and front of my house. The total distance from the transformer to the last light will be approx 140 feet. By my calculation, that is a total of 380 watts. I plan to use a your SRTO-SS-600 transformer and run three lines grouped by type, i.e. Path, Flood, and Up/Accent? My questions are: 1) What is the best way to connect the lights to the main lines? Special connectors? If so which ones? 2) If using 10/2 cable, does it matter if it has a ground wire or not? 3) At the end of each of these lines, do I just tape then closed or what?Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you got things figured out. I would run (2) 10/2 DIRECT BURIAL CABLES and split the load into two runs totaling 190 watts on each cable. You can cut and splice the wire with wirenuts provided you fill it with silicone before tightening. This helps prevent moisture from corroding the splices. We also have special CONNECTORS that allow you to install the system without cutting the wires.

Low voltage systems do not require a ground wire on the secondary side of the transformer going to the lights. However, you will need a ground wire on the primary side of the transformer and a GFCI receptacle to meet code.

As far as the end of the run, just cap it off or tape the wires. Please check out our LANDSCAPE LIGHTING SECTION for fixtures, wire and tansformers. We have PRE-PACKAGED OUTDOOR LIGHTING KITS that may be of interest to you. Hope this helps!
