Lighting for boats using 12 volt lighting fixtures in solid brass.
I have malibu deck 7 watt low voltage deck ("boat") lights that have worked flawlessly for over 10 years. Recently, however, only the first two lights in the row of 12 light when the transformer goes on. I recently replaced the 300 watt transformer with a 600 watt, but the problem persists. What is most bothersome, however, is every few nights all 12 lights will come on! Suggestions? Sound like you have a some sockets or lamps that are going bad. The sockets over time deteriorate or corrode due to salt air or exposure to water. The filaments in the light bulbs sometimes break off the support posts inside the lamp. As the filament moves around it comes in contact with the support post and comes on due to arching. That would be one explanation for the lights that are going on and off. Try changing all the lamps and inspect the sockets for replacement. If you have gotten 10 years, it might be time to buy some new lights! We have BRASS LIGHTS designed for boats.
