Recessed lights for a kitchen and breakfast room.

I am replacing flouresent lighting in my kitchen with recessed lighting. I realize that I should install the lights 6 to 7 feet apart. Does it matter the size of the fixture, 4", 5" or 6"? Or, is it just the bulb I use that I need to consider? My wife wants to go with a smaller 4 or 5 " size for looks. I was going to put in 6".

The size of the recessed lighting fixture will determine the maximum wattage lamp you can use. For example, a 4" fixture with a PAR20 halogen lamp has a maximum wattage of 50-watts. A 5" fixture with a BR30 incandescent lamp has a maximum wattage of 85-watts. A 6" fixture with a PAR38 halogen lamp has a maximum wattage of 120-watts. For the size kitchen you have ddescribed, I would go with a 5" LIGHTOLIER RECESSED DOWN LIGHT or a 5" HALO RECESSED LIGHT.

You should also install a LUTRON DIMMER CONTROL on the lights to regulate the intensity and to set the mood!
