Voltage drop calculator for sizing outdoor lighting cables.

It seems that calculating voltage drop for outdoor lighting cable is a real challenge for most weekend warriors. First of all, don't use less than 12/2 LANDSCAPE CABLE for low voltage lighting systems. Smaller cable, such as 14/2 and 16/2 are designed for short runs or very small systems. 12/2 cable is good for 20 amps of load or roughly 240 watts of light. For long runs, you should use 10/2 DIRECT BURIAL WIRE or larger!

To better understand voltage drop and how cable length and wattage influence output voltage, we created a SIMPLE POWER CABLE CALCULATOR to assist you in the DESIGN AND ENGINEERING of your new lighting system.
